Just running a poll to see what the general consensus is on this.

Ok so your taking your car to be remapped(assuming for performance increase) would you expect to be given before and after figures or just the mapped dyno figures.

Granted there will be situations where a car's engine has been extensively modified and would either not run or would be detrimental to your engine to try run it on stock ecu. But lets assume for this poll that we are talking about your average modified car consisting of the typical bolt on performance parts.

Would definitely expect to see power figures from before ( unless being road mapped ). Regardless of wether it's made more peak power or not it would still be nice to see the money you have spent has improved the car - power/fuel smoothed out or an increase in mid range power.

I think i would purely to see what kind of difference mods make. For example if i was to then change something i would like to know if it has helped or not.
For example if i had a decent exhaust but then went for a louder one i would like to know if the louder one has made a difference enough to want to keep it.
Although i do understand that the figures can't always be believed...

^^ that's why a lot of tuners will say to change one part at a time to get the most out of each modification, this is were fine tuning comes in by dragsters etc but must cost a fortune running to the dyno.. As to the figures I'd rather get the before and after just for curiousity even if it did cost slightly more..

Personally I don't charge any extra to run the car first on stock ecu. It's valuable information for both the owner and myself. I can check to see how the car has been fueling up till now, if the engine is detonating under load etc etc. Gives me a better insight to the health of a engine before any tuning commences.

When I did mine I did a baseline power run on the stock ECU, fitted the Hondata mapped it, printed off a final power run then swapped ECU back and did another power run. was suprising how an hour and a half on the dyno 'found' another 2bhp out of my stock ECU because the whole engine was hotter compared to the original base line run.

Yes it would be nice to see the differences.. Nice to no what way ur car was before the map and after the map ..

But in cases like my build it can be done two lol..due to cowboys

Defo would like before and afters as mentioned above, nice to see if the parts have mad a difference

How come this has been raised? Seems standard request to me?

I never got before figures because my engine was running on a base map but I wanted the after figures. Not that it mattered what power it made

Mainly due to post 11 in this thread

Do you run on stock ecu first? This lad dosnt, I would be inclined to think that a tuner that gives before and after figures must not be confident that their tuning will not be felt by how the car drives and also a higher likelihood of fiddled figures

I've always been of the opinion that if you run the car first on stock Ecu/map then remap you can show the customer exactly where in the rev range improvement in power has been made. Obviously Lloyd has a different opinion on this which got me thinking is this a shared opinion amongst many....

How odd...

I would have thought most want to see what they have gained. Or lost....

I've had my mapping done at one location for years, but they closed their doors with no warning.

So I was stuck with going to another tuner.
Differences between the two was dynojet vs. dynapac.

What was cool with the new tuner is that he did a baseline run from the old map prior to any tune.

This was a unique situation but I appreciated him doing it as it gave me an idea of how much better he was over the old tuner.

I also had the tuner run an additional tune for my exhaust being silenced vs. wide open.

Does that help answer your question?

EDIT: Not sure I would need it every time tho...

Always thought if Dyno tuning a Base run was done regardless.

End of the day Numbers are just numbers without anything to compare them to.

dyno is a tool you compare before and after results.
track et's are kinda the same thing tho.

I think we have stirred up a bit of a debate here aonghus, and by the look of things I'm on the loosing side
