Hey guys,

I was just wondering whether or not it would be fine to use this primer to prime my engine bay before painting. I'm really tempted to spray it whilst everythings out but am short for time so was wondering whether or not this stuff would come in handy.

I can't see why there would be a issue but then again I'm clueless when it comes to painting lol.

Thanks for your time

Don't use it, Hammerite is horrible, it reacts with other paint and even reacts with itself, it chips off eaily and is just a rubbish product all together. I've never seen a high-build Hammerite primer so it'll be useless anyway as a primer in the engine bay.

Rich, does it need priming? If you haven't done any fillering and sanding then you should be fine with a scotch pad and then painting it straight away anything over a 600 grit sandpaper mark/scratch will be covered by paint.

If you have any bare metal bits I would recommend using u-pol acid 8 aerosol to "spot" the bits in,
what top coat were you planning to use

Ok, scrap the Hammerite primer idea..

There are a few areas that are down to bear metal so I'll use the primer that's been recommended to touch them up.

This is the top coat I was going to purchase Car Paint from AutoPaint St Helens (Powered by CubeCart) This would be in silver (same colour as car).

Just to confirm, I have to 1. clean the bay thoroughly with soapy water 2.treat the areas that are down to bare metal with the recommended primer, 3.smooth down those areas 4. Lightly scratch the entire bay with fine wet and dry/Scotch pad 6. Spray away! 7. Post up pictures for you lot to laugh at. ;)

Thanks again guys

That's a base-coat though Rich, so you will have to spray a clearcoat over it and if you're using non-dangerous 1k paint then I'd recommend the Upol SMART acrylic clearcoat.

I would use a solvent such as pre paint panel wipe or in a pinch brake cleaner will do rather than washing down with soapy water as it will dry out much quicker and be more effective on greasy areas,

Also the acid 8 is only a thin etching primer, if you want some build to help smooth things out a bit then use u pol high 5 high build aerosol over the top of the acid 8

And pre-paint wipe it all down before you start spraying the top coat too, prep and time makes a much better job...
