Halal

If something doesn't actually effect your life in any real way, why care? Just get on with what makes you happy, im assuming moaning about 'foreigners' doesnt do this, so why waste the effort? Who are you to decide how other people should live?

Fair one. And to be honest thats my mentality to most things. The bit i still dont understand is why the country tries so hard to please everyone. So scared of offending people. I mean the song "bah bah black sheep" for example. The jeremy clarkson incident ect, people just need to have a thicker skin and like you say get on with it.
A primary school where my sister in law attends cancelled its halloween themed day because it wasnt part of the religion of ONE student. Surely thats a bit nuts? I have no issue with them not celebrating it or whatever. Thats down to them, doesnt bother me nor effect me but why cancel the whole day?

People should be able to do as they please as long as it doesn't have a detrimental effect on others.

The "we were here first" argument is ridiculous. We live in a global society and benefit greatly from it.

About 15>20% of religious meat is killed without stunning. This does need addressed. Religion should not be above the law in any circumstance.

it's the same for foreigners coming into the country and getting jobs! They had a thing on TV about jobs and foreigners coming in and getting the jobs, surely if there putting it on TV it's clean cut there isn't due to the vast amount of people trying to get jobs and can't due to foreign workers, and before someone says that's crap it in fact isn't,how many foreign people here do you no isn't in a job and how many from here do you on isn't in a job? I've worked with polish and they are no different to us just trying to make a living but our country has to say enough is enough

wuft.

to your point about knowing more foreigners with jobs than nationals without, induction is the poorest form of argument for this type of discussion, only mean statistics can describe what you are talking about.

dont think i will post in this thread again haha - too serious, too much hate.

how many foreign people here do you no isn't in a job and how many from here do you on isn't in a job?

You know why?? Because the majority of British people are snobs, they won't work the jobs that have unsociable hours or that pay minimum wage. I work night shifts at a supermarket, the cleaners start at 4am and work mostly through the day, cleaning up after us and customers, on minimum wage. Its a crappy job and even some of the staff look down on them as they are "bottom of the hierarchy". Not a single white English person in 10+ years has worked that job because they think they are better than that, or they can claim benefits as still earn as much by doing nothing. Then the government gets a bashing for "giving out benefits too easily" when they are meant for genuine people who are struggling to get jobs.

If someone is willing to come over from another country and work, then they have every right to be over here. And if a non-english speaking person is able to get a job ahead of someone who was born in the UK then that really is saying something!

I didn't say I knew more foreigners than nationals I'm just stating the fact that there are so many working here half the nationals who maybe are desparate to work can't get a job! But tbh a lot of the foreign workers deserve the work than the other half of nationals because they would rather sit at home and not bother working if there were less foreign workers here and the job seekers who don't wana work were made made it would start to solve are problems a little I'm not having a go at foreign workers as I've worked with them and there nicer than most of are own tbh

689R THUMBS UP TO YOU MATE :nice:, at least some one know's what they talking about

X2 on this

Some of the guys here try to say something more than meat production and how it is extracted. I think it has to do with minorities (religion and/or national) -in this case in the UK- projecting and claiming various rights on various grounds. This results to the local population feeling their own rights and liberties are oppressed. I come from a christian country -myself being an atheist- and live in a foreign -but christian country- as well. The problems here are the same but sometimes with different shapes. For instance in Bayern, muslims have strongly protested against hanging crucifixes above the classroom entrances, and have achieved the removal of these religious objects. On which grounds is irrelevant, BUT when it comes to reasons of public security they appear rigid parting their burka. I would understand why the average German bloke finds this behaviour at least ungrateful. Not on terms of mutual respect alone (since one counterpart subsided) but respecting the laws of the country.

It simply comes down to this:

As someone mentioned earlier, from a business perspective it is very much worthwhile to provide halal meat as part of a restraunt/fast food menu, and naturally is all about profit & making money. The fast food chains couldn't give a flying **** about any religion's belief or background meaning....but if it's going to sell then they shall provide. Basic business.

I'm an atheist, always have been and always will be, again as someone said earlier "religion is the route of all evil" which is an undeniable fact. So why would I (as an atheist man with no religion of his own) eat a blessed meat that conforms to a religion I have absolutely no interest in, and to a point dislike.

689r- Take a trip to London, then tell me about how we aren't becoming a Muslim country. It's fast becoming the case that if a food place isn't Halal, then that's strange...not the other way round.

Britain bowing down to the east.

Il probably get branded a racist now, as is standard issue for someone that has an opinion that goes against someone's beliefs. Infact, surely that makes Muslims racist, as I believe in and fully embrace...bacon. Lol.

I 100% agree with you!I'm not big into religion but the untied kingdoms way of dealing with things like this is a joke!! Were not Muslim so there traditions, rituals and beliefs shouldn't be in force here!! If we went over there and cried about something I bet we would be laughed at or threatened. I believe everyone is equal but it's the same for foreigners coming into the country and getting jobs! They had a thing on TV about jobs and foreigners coming in and getting the jobs, surely if there putting it on TV it's clean cut there isn't due to the vast amount of people trying to get jobs and can't due to foreign workers, and before someone says that's crap it I fact isn't,how many foreign people here do you no isn't in a job and how many from here do you on isn't in a job? The thing about the traditions, ritual's and beliefs not being in force here is one of the things that stood out for me. By that logic we shouldn't have Christmas holidays, no Easter break etc? I'd like to see the outcome that that would kick up if we started doing that.

The way that I'm looking at this is that if one religion is given the chance to have certain circumstances in place for them, shouldn't the rest? By not doing that, it seems like discrimination to me.

A lot of the time, the immigrants work a hell of a lot harder than the British nationals. There are ALWAYS jobs available, people that say they cant get a job are just being too picky.

Curtis, the thing about London. Its like you said, it makes business sense that most of the places are Halal. Have you seen the amount of Muslims in London? Restaurants would be stupid not to make the most of this on this. They make up about 20% of the population in London IIRC, they are not taking over the country. Its not Britain bowing down to the East, it's Britain making things fairer for their population.

Its the usual story of if it's something new, its escalated out of proportion. It makes no difference to anyone apart from the Muslim community, and it makes their lives better/easier. This shouldn't be an issue.

The halal argument makes me chuckle, you don't know if it's lamb/cat/beef/dog from most takeaways round my way but people get an arse up if the meat is halal or not.

As long as the animal isn't tortured/aware of being bled out then it doesn't matter how it's killed.

If however it's fully aware while it's being drained then it's pointless regardless if it's in the name of a religion or not.

I understand that completely mate but I just believe other religions beliefs shouldn't be in force here if the people who live here don't understand or believe it.

Muslim countries are not tolerant and liberal towards other nationals residing in them, in the same degree they want Western countries to be towards Muslims residing per say in France. In fact Muslim immigrants living in christian countries, are not as accepting and understanding towards christians. And that is what religion does to people.

Come to think of it how easy would it be for a christian to find a church to pray in Iran for instance or Pakistan? Or in India if someone wanted to make a farm to breed cows in order to produce meat taking advantage the cheap work force?

Have you been to Pakistan? By the sounds of it NO and please don't make bullshit up whilst typing

Let me clear one thing up

There are hundreds of churches in Pakistan, the amount of Christians live there is unbelievable, also amount of christians that visit pakistan you will be shocked including one of my school teacher who goes there with his family every year cuz he loves it there

Everything is pretty cheap there including life style compare to here, thats the reason alot of people visit Pakistan, every colour or race is welcome there

Same with india

Please do abit of research

Religion is just another way of dividing people so get rid of all religions and your problems solved. The media love a good religion story, it gets people bitching at each other when in reality were all the same. Its money and religion that's the route of all evil

Anyone who treats a defenseless animal badly should be raped with a cactus no matter what religion they are, no excuse for animal cruelty at all

If they don't understand in it, surely its their own responsibility to educate themselves? Also I don't think that anything is "in force", its just an option that's available.

I hope this isn't coming across like I'm singling you out mate, I'm glad we can have this discussion without it turning into a slagging match like it would on civiclife :nice:

Have you got any actual proof of these things? Tarring all Islamic countries, and religions like that is a very bold statement. It's the usual case of the minority giving everyone a bad impression, the media only show the bad things that happen.

I'm not sure about the churches in Pakistan or the beef farms in India because I've not looked into it. This may be a biased view as I'm a Hindu, but I think the cow farm is different because they are considered a sacred animal. The Halal debate is about how the animal is killed, not about the life or the death of the animal.

And if what you say about other countries is true (again I have not enough knowledge on this part), why should we do the same? Why can't we be bigger country and try to help our residents?

I spent eight weeks in the Oman and couldn't get a Hawaii pizza anywhere. Just got to deal with it.

What I really hated though was chicken/turkey bacon and beef sausages. Seemed odd not wanting to eat a certain animal but willing to eat another if it can be made to look like a pig.
