Fitting EK9 / DC2 5 Stud Hub & Wheel Bearing Assemblies to EK4 4 Stud Knuckles / RTAs

Hi everyone,

After quite an extensive search, theoretically the above should be possible. However, I thought I'd check to see if anyone ever decided to try it, and what was the outcome.

Long story short, a mate of mine is looking to convert his EK4 to a 5x114.3 set up, to allow him some better braking and the wheels he really wants are only available in 5 stud. Easy then, buy a complete hub conversion from either an EK9 or a UK DC2.
However, he's recently had his front knuckles shot blasted, powdercoated and new Hardrace roll centre adjusters installed, the rear trailing arms have also had the same treatment, with new Hardrace RTA bushes installed. Obviously for this reason it would be very desirable to keep his existing knuckles and RTAs.

From researching, it is apparent that all 96-2000 Civics and Integras use the same front knuckles and rear trailing arms as each other. Excluding the JDM 98 Spec DC2 which has a larger diameter drive shaft spline / hole, and the Civic MB6, which has a different rear track to EK Civics and DC2s due to the base of the rear stub axles being 10mm longer. So, providing he bought a pair of EK9 / DC2 front hubs (not knuckles, just hubs) and complete EK9 / DC2 rear wheel bearing assemblies, there should be no reason why these couldn't be fitted to his existing EK4 4x100 set up. Should there?

Obviously as I said in the beginning, theoretically there is no reason why this wouldn't work, however it's always nice to hear if anyone else has done / tried it. Obviously should it be possible he'll still buy a complete hub swap (as he wants the brake set up too), but instead of having to fit the entire knuckle and RTA, we'll just swap over the hubs and rear wheel bearings.

Cheers.

Yes you can just swapp the rears. Have done it before.

Fronts in theory would work however never actually seen it done

Fronts can be swapped, however if you want to re-use your bearing you have to be very carefull, because part of the bearing will come out with the hub when you press it out.

That's a good sign about the rears being possible, I suppose I'll just have to trust my theory and give the fronts a go then :)

Have you done the swap yourself NLek? The bearing would be replaced anyway, while the hub is off it would be silly not to, and chances are the current bearing would be damaged during removal anyway :nice:

I assumed after the shotblasting and powdercoating came new bearings already. :)
No, but I did replace studs on some hubs. And I've meassured the front hubs of both 4- and 5-lug, thats why I know they can be swapped (also because they both use the same knuckle and bearing).

I thought the same but my friend is adamant the bearings weren't touched :) Well, I'll have to give it a try then. Cheers for your help :nice:
