I'm planning to put a k20 in my integra in a few weeks and I'm trying to decide on gearbox options. I have bought an ep3 for all the engine, box etc for the swap but would like an LSD box.
I know I could buy a dc5 box for the better 3/4/5 and the Oem LSD, but In also looking at putting a final drive and LSD in the ep3 box.
I'm not really to clued up on aftermarket LSD's and not too good with gear ratios so looking for some opinions.
Which would be a better option, standard dc5 box or ep3 box with an aftermarket final drive and LSD?
Thanks

Play with the mfactory gear calculator it will give you a rough idea of speeds in each gear at certain rpms and top speeds in each gear etc.. it allows you to change gear ratios and fd ratios. I found it helpful. In terms of lsds the most common would be mfactory kazz and cusco amongst others. Pm mfactory on this im sure he will be able to answer all your questions...

If you already have the EP3 box, get yourself the 5.1fd from the CRV, if you are running 15" tyres its a good mod & not too pricey. The diff options were discussed in your other thread? If you are taking the box apart, factor in some oem refresher parts to save you cash later.
If you are feeling flush, the JDM gears and/or the Buddy Club 5th/6th combo are great for n/a, I would probably not do the 5.1 and the JDM gears/BC combo if you are staying with a 15" tyre - you may find this too short.

I run JDM 4th and BuddyClub 5th (1.028) & 6th (0.921) gears. (15" tyre and oem 4.78fd), because of the gearing it tops out at 135mph, I have not managed to hit the limiter yet on any UK track or at Spa. Check out some of my videos to get an idea of the gearing, when it was a road car the acceleration in 5th or 6th was perfect for overtaking, very good for n/a.

Most gearsets for the K20 are a full set 1-6 and are used with a different final drive, its big money. Or you can try and mix & match with the many oem gears available.

Buddy Club UK may have some different options available now, contact Paul Hughes.

Agree with everything said... the fact you can run 15" wheels helps massively so I'd say just the 5.1 F/D will do you fine... although I personally sourced the JDM 4,5,6 gears as my k20 is still in an ep3... and even on 225 45 16's 6th gear is pointless when N/A.

For the LSD I went for Gripper as I wanted something more suited for track... and I got a great deal on it.

I also changed to carbon synchros while box is apart.

I'm running 205/45/16 tyres, 15" wheels do not cover my brakes up front so need 16"
Will these options still be of any use to me?

You will still gain as ep3 size is 205 45 17 so your still smaller but not as much as with 15's... I'd personally feel the shorter the better when N/A but its a trade off if you use the car everyday or on motorways etc but there is always the option of using a longer 6th for that...

Like mentioned above, have a play with the Mfactory gear calculator see what suits your needs...

That's the beauty of the BC 5th/6th combo, it makes 5th a 4 and a half and 6 a 5 and a half, very useable road & track. A downside for some is the extra noise.

Motorway cruising in 6th (GPS Road Angel) - 70mph is 4.8k
- 75mph is 5k
- 80mph is 5.5k.

But then most go and slap on a loud exhaust anyway..

Yeah I wanted the BC gears but too expensive for me... I settled on the JDM gears and 5.1 as I couldnt stretch to the 5.4. :(

I done some messing on the mfactory calculator.
I tried with a 5.4fd

And a 5.8fd

Since my b18c is at 4k at 70mph, what could I be looking at 70mph with these FD's? It shouldn't be much higher than 4k should it?

Screenshot for from mine comparing the 5.1 and 5.8, if it's of any use to you?

Servers down (again ) so you can't use it yourself at the moment unfortunately.

StevieG - Did you alter the in gear ratios to EP3 on the drop down menu? As that will change things abit... the screen shot above shows Mfactory gears?

Ahh I typed them ratios in myself. I belive there the standard ep3 gear ratios from a chart I found over on k20.org

Thanks for that chart kozy, so looking at that it looks like at 70mph in 6th with the 5.8 I'm sitting at around 4,500 and with the 5.1 it's at about 4000.
Kozy did you go for either Final drive?

Oh rite fair enough! Good effort on the calculator though it's a good help! :nice:
