Just seen this on the BBC Wesbite that from 2014 there will be double points available for the last race? What you guys think of this? Could make it interesting, make drivers stick in that bit more because they might be able to jump a place or two if they do well in the race.
Saying that Vettel will probably have ran away with it by this point anyway

BBC Sport - Formula 1 to award double points for final race from 2014

sounds to me like they are getting desperate. I kind of lost interest about half way through the season.

F1 is nothing like what is used to be, a drivers sport.
Its about everything else, not the driver.
Big business advertising has gone too far and I doubt recovery is possible.

A new league will need to happen to be able to get what F1 use to have, drivers.

I think it's stupid and a desperate attempt at gaining more viewers. If they brought back re-fuelling and 1 point for pole I think it would be very different and exciting to watch.

It needs success ballast like the touring cars, if it wasn't for Honda having there boost cut down and extra weight added they'd have run away with it. Instead it went to the final race of the season

Yes this would work:clap:

agreed with jesse about the weight ballast

or how about just banning adrian newey from the sport, or banning the redbull test mule(torro rosso)

Maclaren should be pretty good this year, they have afew of neweys designers from redbull and the merc power plant will be pretty decent

Theres loads of reasons i think the double points finale is a stupid idea. Cheifly it diminishes the sporting aspect of the championship. Different cars tend to be good at different types of circuit, making one race double points just sort skews it in favour of one team.

In contrast what most are saying here i actually think the sports been really good in recent years. I know this one and 2011 was a redbull/vettel walkover but 2012 went to the last race and really hamilton should have also been well in contention but for a mass of points given away to pit mistakes and part failures. 2010 went to the last (with 4 drivers still in the chase) so did 2008 and 2007.

I also think in terms of driver skill its of the highest stabdard its ever been. I mean schumacher couldnt keep near even ground to his team mate when he made his comeback and rosbergs not even that highly rated amongst the current grid.

its rather unfair to say schumacher couldnt keep with rosberg, cause lets face it he is over the hill

He obviously thought otherwise. He was targetting winning the championship again within three years when he started with merc. I dont think he lacked the fitness and by the way he tried to smear barrichelo into a the pitwall i dont he'd lost any of his ruthlessness lol

lol the man is just ruthless and a hard racer thats all, what about when vettel pushed alonso off the track at monza a few years back?? lets face it he came back into the sport where you are not allowed to thrash the **** out the car and not fully exploit his ability, but in quite a few races he held his own against rosberg but suffered failures, showing the man still is decent, and with rosberg performing well against hamilton shows just how decent he still is, you gotta remember he came into the sport in 1991 which is a long long time ago

i for one love michael schumacher, the fact he could of stayed at benetton and won loads of titles but decided to go to a struggling team like ferrari says it all for me, you wont be seeing vettel jumping ship to a poor team

anyways yes this points rule is stupid

Off topic but In his day Schumacher would have held his own with any of the new lot.

i for one am done with F1 now, stupid engines and stupid rules coming in next year to go along with the tire maintainance crap. Its lost all that made it great to watch in years gone by. :(

I really wanted to get into f1 last season but just couldnt take to it. Much prefer touring cars etc. Is it just me or has it got way more complicated in terms of rules and regs than it needs to be?

Majority of the rules are for cost cutting. I think using the tyres to add depth to the sport is a wrong idea. 1 mandatory pit stop with tyres strong enough to take punishment promotes racing.

they should just make it into a one make series where everyone has the same car, we will find out who is the best then

For me the engine regulations make sense. With out them it would be come dangerous and a case of who ever has the most money.
With new emition regulations on roads going to smaller engines makes sense.
As a lot have said they much prefer touring cars it's clear that the actual speed doesn't really matter so going to smaller engines shouldn't really make a difference. For me the problems lie with things like tyres. And the way to try and control the races so much.
The drivers should be aloud to push the cars as hard as they can. Sure there's a risk of death but that's why they do it in the first place. It's the most fun when you close to the edge for the drivers and the people watching. That's why people go and watch NASCAR

The new engines might I add are VERY good, I've heard the Ferrari engine in testing and it sounds almost identical to the 80's model apart from the turbo sounds a lot more aggressive, power wise we can expect a LOT more torque from these engines, drivers cannot just power straight out a corner in 2014 this will result in the rear snapping out so I think we will see a lot more driver talent come into play. The double points system for me doesn't really solve a solution on one sided driver championships, I think this year will come down to the nail, double points will probably make the championship even more one sided. As I said before, they should bring back refuelling; this along with different tyre compounds should make for very exciting racing. I do think that the whole "paid" driver thing should be wiped out, but again it's always been like this so I doubt there is a way to change this.
