EK9 Insurance

Yeah buts its an import, its faster, it looks nicer, its rarer, those things may be taken into account also.... and in their eyes "young driver + fast car = is a no no"
it all makes sense.

Insurance companies talk ****, its not the car its the driver.

I can drive my MG and still severly crash it and kill someone just the same as i could in an ek9, im safer in an bmw x5 than i am in my mg, yet i cant get insured on an x5.

Insurance is a rip off and im tired of it, i get charged stupid prices for my mg which is as just as dangerous as an ek9, my mg can still hit 100mph, any car that goes over 40mph is dangerous, thats where people die.

its worse when insurance companies say that cars too powerful for you, shut up, no its not, if its too powerful for me then its too powerful for anyone, i have a driving license and can drive any car, its how i drive it that counts, i can drive any car fast and dangerously.

See to be honest mate you could bitch about it all day long but at the end of the day every person on this forum has all suffered high insurance quotes and none of us like it but its a fact of life!

To be fair the only time you get "cheap insurance" is when your 30 and have maximum ncb with no points, then you are a low risk driver, people seem to think when you hit the big 25 its all downhill from there i know a few boys who are 27 and aint paying ne less than what im hearing on here.

The fact is in the insurance companies opinion your young, your experience is still novice, and lets face it your more likley to crash and do somthing a bit daft when your younger than paying alot of money for a car to either lose your license or wrap it round a tree as when you are older!

So you have a few choices, you either bite the bullet and pay the high premium, or you keep your MG and get a few years NCB and a bit more "experience" as it were.

Your going from an insurance group 6-7 to a 18-19, there harldy going to take kindly to that at your age!

well, i complain about it because i can, ofcourse it wont change anything, i pay high premiums anyway.

I have sold the mg, and my ek9 should be on its way over from Japan soon thanks to privateimports.

the insurance on this, while high, isnt as bad as i thought.

and for the people saying under 21`s cant get insured on an ek9, ofcourse you can, im 19 with 1ncb and i can get insured.

What insurance company you with mate and how much is it costing you?

Probably not insured as an EK9.

Not saying that is the owners fault, but from what I know and other people know of some insurance companies.

And it is probably between £1500 cheapest and...well, the sky's the limit. £4000?

For a 19 year old with 1 years no claims will never be cheaper than £1500 on an EK98 with the insurance company knowing EXACTLY what the EK9 is. Not a VTi - R etc etc!

actually it is insured correctly:

civic type r 1999 manual 1595cc

its with a company called budget insurance, the highest i had was 7000!!!!

the company know its an import too

the cost if i can remember is between 1400 and 1500.

considering my mg was costing 1300 i think the increase of about 200pounds is quite good considering the car im getting, if i wait an extra 2 months i will have 2ncb and it will drop to about 1100 pound.

I'm not thinking that that quote is 100% correct if it is insured in your name etc.

I have just dome 2 quotes with them for myself and myself as a 19 year old.

I have just been on the budget insurance site and the cheapest I got was £3330.66

One other question about insurance. Do the no claims bonus start when you take the policy out or when you have passed your'e driving test?

They are achieved by having a full years insurance with no claims on it.

Every full year of no claim insurance, adds an extra 1 year to your no claims bonus. ;)

Right ok. So I took out my policy in july 2006. So that means july this year I will have 2 years no claims? Even though 7 months of the first year I spent with my dad when I was learning to drive?

I, when you took the policy out, it was in your name, for the car you was driving, then yes, you will get a years no claims discount for it.

It was in my dads name. Even though it was my car as I was learning my dad was gonna use it more than me so I was an added driver. However, I still got the no claims as my insurance company allows the added driver to build up a no claims bonus. So then basically I will have 2 years no claims in july. (touch wood) lol!

Direct Line?

Yes, that is true.

But any NCB from being a named driver can (usually) only be used with the same company.

And make sure than company allow import insurance, otherwise you will only have 1 years NCB! :(
