Hi all, I'm new to EK9.org. I've been a member of ITR-DC2 for around 3 months now... I was wondering if any members on here drive EK9's at the ago of 19? :wow:

I'm 19 with 1 years no claim...

I'm still deciding what to go for next. Either a clio 172 cup, itr or a ctr... But I think it's going to be the insurance quote picking my next car... :nono:

That is all...

Read the 2 topics in this section named EK9 Insurance.

That answers all your questions.

We don't need 3+ topics on the same issue surely??

(not dig at the topic started btw;))

at your age mate i had a 223bhp/t glanza v(198bhp) but im in ireland and assume your in uk,having a full licence makes a big difference,do you have one?

19 and my insurance ain't squat compared to what you'd pay, but then again my insurance company sees a 96 Honda Civic CX, the cheapest (but lightest) Civic available in the US at the time, IE an econobox. They don't see a B16 swapped sport compact. :D

ye but when you wrap it up and kill somebody watch them nail your balls to the wall. very stupid thing to do! thats my opinion anyway

Yes, I've had a full license for 1 1/2 years now, with pass plus.

Their isn't too much point in having insurance if that's your case...

i dont agree, your acting as if the ek9 is some sort of supercar mate...
they are a great car but their not exactly rocket machines....and also they handle like a dream
i got told the same thing when i was that age and i was driving a much much more power ful car,and more power again when i was 20....didnt crash either....all i can say to the original poster is,if you can insure it properly and if thats what you want, then go for it mate

What are you going to pay on insurance on the 172? Thats a gorup 16 so its not going to be a world away from what the EK9's gonna cost. And plus your getting more for your money, buy a renault and the garage will have it more than you, I think it was a 5 year old on his lunch break that designed them....

so what was your point in quoting me with that comment.
number 1 i didnt say anything about the ek9 being a supercar and nor did i say anything like at his age or your age that you shouldnt be driving one.
number 2 all i was pointing out is that it not even worth him paying insurance because if you wraps his car up, or wraps somebody elses car up the insurance company wont pay out. a very stupid and imature thing to do.

you might not think thats its a supercar but the insurances think otherwise. In my country, you cant drive a civic type-r unless you're age 25 or a millionaire. I'm 19 and I drive a lowly pug 106 with a 1ltr engine and it still costs me alot!! there are certain cars that are black listed! e.g. escort mk1, honda crx del sol, rx-7, and for some reason a ctr but not an itr! all these you cannot drive under 25

Yeah so a dont think ill be moving to Malta anytime in the future LOL

Don't forget people, that Techy is from USA.

They have different ways of having insurance in America don't they.

Might work totally different from us here in the UK.

I think his comment might have been blown out of proportion a little bit.

Yea, if it's the same as UK insurers, his policy will be void. But how many of you can say that your policy (or previous policies) have / are 100% correct?

All modifications declared?

Even uprating the brakes (a benefit in every car) can void teh insurance if not declares and increase a policy price if you do declare it.

Where is the justice and where do we draw the line?

In the US it's mandatory to have insurance on any vehicle you have for it to be street legal. Modifying a vehicle doesn't mean anything to an insurance company though. It's just certain mods void manufacturer warranties and that's it. I bought my car 10 years old (manufacturer warranty long since been gone) with the swap already done. The only way an insurance company would give 2 shits about my mods would be if I raised my insurance policy above just liability and specifically insured my mods. Say, if I actually had full coverage and had a wreck, I'd only get what the company thinks a CX is worth (about $2000-2500 USD) but if I had my swap, intake, cd player, speakers, JDM goodies, and other stuff insured, I'd probably get something around $3500-$4000. If my brother was an auto claims rep instead of property rep, I'd get even more (my brother is a property claims rep at my insurance company. My dad is a systems analyst at the same place and chances are I'll wind up an IT pro there :D )

Techy, keep in mind that every state has different rules. In New Hampshire you don't have to have insurance, even at 17.

Boozer Matt, how is an insurance company supposed to know if the brake upgrade is actually beneficial to stopping distances? Some brake components are downgrades. And if you don't change the tires then the brake uprgrade must be for heat soak in high stress situations, which would leave them to think you will drive the car faster and harder than most people; thus higher rates.

Hmm, didn't know that. I thought it was was nationwide thing. Oh well, in Tennessee it's illegal to drive without insurance. One of the first things a cop will ask for is proof of insurance and if you don't show it, you're screwed. Doesn't mean everyone has insurance though.

By the sounds of it you guys have got it easy, no matter what you end up paying a fortune i havent had a years driving where someone hasnt hit me and its funny because each time that happened my insurance premium kept going sky ward's i hate insurance companies its the only thing im looking foward to being 40!

Yea, I guess. but you don't phone up your insurance company every time you change the make of tyre you use do you?

You could put cheap budget tyres on or £500 per tyre set on, insurance companies don't care for that info.

But if you do a proper brake conversion (dics, pads, calipers, hoses, fluid) then they will look upon it as a modification and mostly increase your policy price.

That I beleive is wrong, but nothing I or yopu can do to change that fact. :)

so whats the difference between him crashing it and you crashing it?the insurance will still nail you regardless of age if you crash, but we dont buy cars for fear of crashing them mate, cant wrap yourself up in bubblewrap like:nice:
