EK4 vs EK9 ABS ecu

Had this question in the back of my mind for quite a while. According to several sources EK9 should provide sportier ABS function and partnumbers of the ECU seem to be different too.

Now has anybody on here ever switched those 2 ABS computers out on there own car and feel a difference? Keeping everything the same and only the switch of ABS ecu itself?

Nobody? Anybody willing to sell me an EK9 ABS ecu so that I can find it out for myself? :)

I can sell you mine for not too much cash if you can wait a couple weeks, I will be ripping the whole ABS out :)

It is from a preface 9, next time I'm home I'll get it out for you!

It'd work best if you had upgraded the EK4 brakes to EK9 spec.

agree with the above, its a safety critical part, no doubt honda spent lots of time and money in the R&D to perfect the system.

I wouldn't say ABS is a safety "critical" part, plenty cars out there with no ABS at all. Safety part - yes, but not critical. Upgrading to EK9 brakes is a good idea in any case!

The reason I say that is the ABS will be programmed with parameters of the braking system it is designed to be used with.

It'd be like sticking a B16B ECU on a B16A2. It'd work, but not necessarily any better than standard, and possibly worse.

Thanks for the input, I first want to test the difference in ECU only, just to see if the ABS works noticable later then mine....I have plans to do the brakes themselves too and then I can check again between the ECU's.
There might be difference in the ABS pump as well, I yet have to compare partnumbers.

@ oifovo: Thanks, send me PM when you have it out.

Try install ek9 facelift ABS ECU in my ek4 and do not work, ABS dont do check up light and when i switch in engine the light stays all on.

If u try let me know,i dont no if ek9 ABS ECU that i buy its good

Thanks to member oifovo today I received the type R ABS ecu....will soon post what is does in my ek4. :)

Yours is z020 instead of z010 and has black instead of orange connecters, right?

I couldn't wait to try it out, so today I hooked it up quickly over the stock abs ecu:

Removed the cover because I will just swap the printplate over in my own different casing, this way it can all be mounted like oem.

Anyway I'm vary satisfied with the result as it is a noticable difference. Last night it has been freezing so the roads were kind of slippery and ideal to test abs.

Ek4 computer: braking hard results in instant activitating ABS, wheels don't lock up at all, you really get the feeling that decelaration is being sacrificed in favour of steerabilty of the front wheels.

Ek9 computer: braking hard results in (some) locking wheels and even hearing the tires squeal (!) and then the ABS grabs in.....best way to describe is that the car now feels as a car without ABS with ABS :). You can even get the frontwheels to slide a bit sideways in a corner which was not possible with the ek4 ecu. The stock ecu even felt dangerous on slippery roads as the ABS would just keep on going on too long. And I now really feel the tires bite when I hit the brakes....I like it!

edit, side by side comparison:

Why my didnt work? Maybe seller sold me from pré facelift?

That would explain the error.....you should have matching color connectors fur sure.
