Hey everyone, my SIR wing mirrors have the the rubber belts in them, they have stretched causing the mirrors to not fold in as desired. I'm sure it's a common problem on them,
Has anyone found a decent cure for this problem or somewhere to buy new belts from?

Cheers!

Are you sure the rubber is stretched? I just sprayed the hinge on mine with wd40 when they stopped folding and that sorted them out.

If the lubricant doesn't help, and you are sure that the belt is stretched then you can do a fix. You will know the belt is loose when the motor keeps running and you hear the clicking sound.

I did that many years ago so I can't remember well. Basically you open up the motor to find the belt, then a piece of plastic block is glued at a strategic spot to push the belt inwards so that it's not loose.

Just a thought is all .
What is you take the rubber belt off
And get a hot air gun and heat up the belt to
Make it shrink a little?

Or put it in boiling water ?

Here's a picture I googled. It's not visible but you still can see the black color belt. You need to remove the motor to get access to the belt. The belt is like fan belts which can't be shrunken with heat. You either replace it or get a stump of plastic there to remove the slack.

Yes I see it , your idea is best , maybe a little wheel screwed in too hold the belt tight?
Or as said bit of plastic?

Hey, I did not realise you guys had replied to this - thought it would of emailed
Me or something cheers for
Your input... yeah defo stretched because of
Clicking noise, they do operate to a degree but it is an annoyance when the mirrors click loads instead of folding in that last little bit.. yeah Like you save I find wedging some plastic round where the belt operate on the big mounting gear helps stop it jumping, it just gives the mirrors an operational flat spot when the motor take up the slack but I suppose that’s the best it will get, surely there’s a lawnmower somewhere that uses the same belt thanks again for you replies, sorry for such a late reply

I'd look at RC cars. A lot are belt driven, but the belt widths are quite thin (5mm ballpark) on mine or mates cars. The length should be fine though if you can figure out what you need.
