Hello !

As promised in my presentation here it comes a presentation of my car build which is in progress.

Before my EK4 i owned an EK3 for 2 years and a half. Here are few pics of it before i sold it:

I liked this car but after 2 years i wanted to change for something a bit more powerful so i bought the EK4 of a friend. However i miss its color, white EK's are so lovely :(

The day i got it:

After a few months i installed an EK9 carpet, EK9 door panels, EK9 shift boot and knob:

After few time i decided to reinstall bumpers which were on my EK3. I also bought an OEM EK9 wing to complete the "Bodykit".

The car was visually nice but a stuff was missing ... so ... chassis upgrade for more fun !

Second: EK9 brakes

And finally, on the road again with red ITR rims. I changed for OEM EK9 wheels 2 weeks ago but i haven't photos ...

Just a picture with red ITR wheels.

your white ek was very clean, your car has come on well mate but imo the red wheels do nothing for the car, the fan blades were nicer :nice:

Yes I know for red rims ... they definitly were ugly ...

That's the reason why i bought EK9 wheels but i didn't make photos at the moment.

As promised, some photos of the engine rebuild :nice:

I began workin' on the engine while i had few holidays.

The car at its new place for some months.

Engine out ! DOHC VTEC crane FTW ! No brakes for more fun

img0114bw.jpg

Engine in the garage.

img0117fo.jpg

Then dissasembly of head and bottom.

My father who is helping me took a look at the engine:

1/ Headgasket was broken between cylinders 2 & 3
2/ Cylinder 3 consumed water
3/ All other cylinders began to consume more or less water

Next step is to disassemble head.

First, we mark valves for the assembly step.

s8302683.jpg

Intakes valves are a bit dirty but in quite clean for a 226 000km engine:))

s8302693.jpg

s8302692.jpg

Intake valves were clean but that's not the same with exhaust ... see by yourself ...

s8302696.jpg

s8302689.jpg

And finally, cylinder head is naked !

s8302688.jpg

I brought it to my local machining shop for a complete control. The guy told me there was no cracks and it will have to be milled by 0,15mm.

Then, it was time to work on bottom end. First i had to get codes on the block, on crankshaft and on rods to order my main bearings and rod bearings. I decided to order OEM Honda instead of ACL race bearings to get an optimal clearance. Moreover in my case don't see the interest in ordering reinforced bearings as Honda OEM last hundred of thousand kilomleters if maintenance is well done.

No more pics at the moment but crankshaft, pistons and rods are out and I'm waiting for my parts. As there is no stock i have to wait 3 to 4 weeks ...

Small update here.

Head polishing is almost finished (don't really have a place and time to work on it).

I received a first package of OEM parts with pistons, rings, bearings and some O' rings. Next week I should receive my head and bottom gasket sets.

In january i'll bring everything to my machine shop and then hope to put engine back at its place in February.

Finally, my setup will be a bit different ...

1/ I bought RM springs with titanium retainers to go for an aftermarket camshaft later.

2/ I'll buy a Tegiwa header instead of spoon or fujitsubo which are sooooooo expensive.

3/ S80 gearbox with S4C 4th and 5th at home since yesterday !

4/ I bought legend twin pot front calipers

As mentionned above I installed EK9 wheels and here are photos:

I'm so impatient to hear VTEC screaming again !!!

great project with pics to match :)

why not go for branded 2nd hand manifold instead of the Tegiwa?

Lovely car mate, and great work so far!! Look forward to seeing more on this :D

Thanks guys !

why not go for branded 2nd hand manifold instead of the Tegiwa?

I am looking for a 2nd hand manifold but i can't find one developed for B16A, most of them are for B16B or B18C and I need a very good ground clearance to install my Summit H-Brace. Moreover they are more expensive than a new tegiwa ...

That's why I'll certainly go for the tegiwa mani. I'm sure that ground clearance is perfect with B16A and performances seem to be good enough for the price.

Build seems to be coming along nicely mate. Liking the ek9 wheels on it :) Look forward to seeing more updates on this! Keep up the good work!

Thanks guys !

try and find a "comptech" 4-2-1 manifold friend, best manifold ever made for the b16a and has plenty of clearance,i had one on my b16a2 before i went b18c,great mid range torque with them also.
there has been a few on here recently for sale so have a look about, they are discontinued now.

goodluck :nice:

In fact i hesitate between following headers: used spoon, used toda, new or used fujitsubo, new tegiwa or new supersprint.

Supersprint is almost expensive as new fujitsubo or used spoon/toda while tegiwa is the cheapest and the only one i could get at the moment because of my budget ...

However I can wait a while with my old 4-1 Invidia and without H-brace and buy a spoon header.

Hey guys, just a small update here !

My parts came back from the machine shop.
- Head milled (0.1mm)
- Bottom milled (0.15mm) and cylinders oversized to 81.25mm
- OS +0.25 Pistons, rings and rods assembled
- Crankshaft controlled and conform to Honda specs

Everything is ready for reassembly.

Hey guys, didn't update this thread for a while.

First, I changed my daily drive in January and bought an EK3. I got it at a very interesting price but there was "some" maintenance to do ...

Done:
- NGK spark plugs
- OEM air filter
- Fuel filter
- Pollen filter

To do:
- Belts + water pump
- Thermoistat
- Valve clearance
- RTA bushings

ek3oignon1.jpg

ek3oignon2.jpg

Changed my recaro foams.

img0181ha.jpg

img0182bc.jpg

The head ready to be put on the bottom end.

img0179yv.jpg

img0184nw.jpg

Then I worked on the brake system and installed:
- Legend front calipers
- EK9 1" Master cylinder
- EK9 proportioning valve

I'll have to bleed the system again before going on the road as it's far to be perfect ... I hate bubbles ... particularly in my brake system :angry2:

here is the result behind EK9 wheels ... it fits perfect !

img0199eh.jpg

img0201d.jpg

Finally the bottom is reassembled !

Beginning of May I have few holidays to work on it so the engine should go back at its place.

By the way I found a Top Fuel Catback at good price ... I'll have it the 28th of April when I'll see the seller :D
