Hey guys

In the market for a semi budget splitter - have been searching around for something suitable and think I may have come across one that's well priced but unsure of the material.

Basically a fancy CF one would've been nice but unfortunately I can't really allocate my budget to it or it's gonna put a lot of other things I want to do with the car on hold for a long time.

Basically the one that I've come across is made of ACM (aluminium composite material) which is a piece of 3mm aluminium sandwich between two sheets of plastic, which comes with alloy brackets and supporting rods.

I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for" (costs $399 NZD which is probably around 200 quid for you guys living in the UK) but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this sort of material or would be able to provide some guidance? It comes with a full undertray so as far as I can tell it SHOULD do the job. I'm not going to enter world time attack with it but it should work for the occasional track day right?

Or am I better off maybe measure up a bit of plywood and making my own?

Opinions?

Put a link up so we can see :nice:
I'm currently making my own splitter, I'm using 9mm exterior grade MDF that cost about £15.00.
And some BYC splitter mounts that cost £80.00.
You have to do more work measuring etc, I'll post some photos when I'm done.

I saw that in your latest post - looks like it's gonna come out really nice once you've painted it. I've also heard MDF is strong enough to stand on with sturdy brackets (or maybe that was plywood?).

This is the site that sells said splitter - this includes everything you get with the kit.

I've been told by the gentleman who runs the website, that it looks like the photo on this page https://www.speedscience.co.nz/product/speed-science-lip-splitter-ek-234dr/ - just this one is just the splitter portion whereas the one in the first link comes with the undertray so it's more "race spec" whereas the one in the 2nd link is for those who just want a splitter without the function.

MDF is quite cheap here as well, might be good idea to maybe make my own as well if this splitter isn't very bang for buck.

Dude that's sick, it's come out very nicely and sits very flush against the lip.

Just out of interest do you think it will encounter problems with splitting or cracking if exposed to rainy weather?

I used exterior grade plywood so it should be fairly weather tight.
I'm also using an exterior black wood paint so that has some weatherproofing properties in it. As with any wooden splitter they are prone to breaking but it's cheap to replace.

To protect the wood you can also wrap it with fibreglass and resin.

By the way your splitter looks very good.
