EJ9 – VIN check for factory Non-SRS (Belgian import, 1995 build)

Hey guys,

I drive a 1995 Honda Civic EJ9 (VIN: JHMEJ93200S153171). The car was originally built for the **Belgian market**, and first registered in Germany in 1997 – so it sat for around two years before registration.

Right now, the car still has the **original SRS setup** – driver airbag, passenger airbag, and SRS cluster. But I’m planning to remove the driver’s airbag and replace it with a Momo steering wheel + hub, which I want to **get street-legal in Germany via Einzelabnahme (§21)**.

In order to do that, I’d need to **prove** that this VIN **either was delivered without SRS**, or at least was **part of a batch** that had a **factory Non-SRS version** available at that time (1995).

I know that early EJ9s (especially in Belgium, Italy etc.) were sold without airbags – but I need some sort of confirmation, e.g.:

- Screenshot from Honda EPC / part catalog
- VIN range showing which ones came without SRS
- Proof of base models being sold without airbags around 1995
- Any official Honda documentation

I haven’t removed anything yet – I’m just trying to **gather all the information first**, so I can do it right and fully legal.

If anyone has access to the EPC, VIN database or even went through something similar:
**I’d be super thankful for any info, help or screenshots.**

Iv just tried to check your vin and it doesnt come up. maybe the vin you have typed is wrong?
If its correct, i may not be able to search parts as it for another market (LHD) ETC

Sure, I’ve uploaded the Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil 1 (German registration certificate, Part 1).


It shows all the relevant details – including the VIN, production year (1995), and first registration (1997).


Maybe you can take a closer look – I really appreciate your help, especially since you mentioned you work at Honda.

Itsl shows SRS drivers and passangers for this vehicle.

Car is a 1997 model.

1995 doesnt even show against this vin at all.

this is a 2000 year honda civic type r ek9 RACE BASE. which didnt come with abs
Cannot show vin as its someone elses car

This did not come with airbags(SRS) from factory

That’s exactly what I suspected – that there were EJ9s without airbags.

The thing is: for a legal modification here in Germany, I really need some kind of official proof.

Like a document, EPC screenshot, or registration paper from a EJ9 that originally came without SRS.

If you ever come across anything like that, or know someone who might have it, I’d really appreciate it.

Hey, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out – that already gave me some useful insight, so thanks a lot for that.

If I may ask one more thing:

Would you happen to have a way to check if there was any version of the Honda Civic EJ9 that came from the factory without a driver airbag (so, no SRS system at all)?


I’m specifically trying to find out whether there was any market or model year where the EJ9 was homologated without airbags – that would be important for a potential TÜV inspection here in Germany.


Would really appreciate it if you could find anything on that.
