Driving like a twat

Not really sure I get this one. The OP knows he drives like a tool. Freely admits its stupid. Surely the next step is to try and stop the stupid ****? I'd have thought the obvious step would be to slow down. Driving fast isn't always dangerous, but driving at 100% of your ability all the time isn't going to last long before you have a smash or hurt someone.

As someone said. Self control. To be honest it might be hard but if you can't slow down you better get yourself a 1 litre corsa before you lose your license or hurt yourself.

Hi guys,

I was on the piss all day yesterday so apologies for not responding. Firstly I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your responses, that was very good of you and I feel it's helping me realise that there's a time and a place to drive quickly and that I need to resist the urge to plant it everywhere I go.

Yesterday I decided to go up to the EVO Triangle to release some of my frustrations which is only 30 minutes from where I live as generally the roads are very quiet and it's right up through quiet farm/moorlands. I'm sure many of you guys have driven these roads before so you'll know where I'm talking about.

It's the first time I've really been able to open the B20 up since I've had it. The handling of my car was a bit all over the place, that coupled with the more power of the B20 and it gave me a fright in some places so I really had to slow down and calm down a bit. I did have two guys on Superbikes by the side of the road shouting at me "TEC TEC TEC TEC TEC" ha ha! :D

I really am going to try and slow down now and not show off especially in built up areas. Whenever I see passers by now I'm just going to tell myself "Slow down, there's no need to show off you're not going to gain anything from it".

I'm going to heed the advice about slowing down and not let people get to me and feel the urge to race everyone, like someone said there are much faster cars out there than mine I don't need to prove anything to anyone so there's no need to drive like a complete prick everywhere I go. Also I need to start growing up too, not just behind the wheel but in general. I really am getting too old for this kind of ****.

I'm hoping to get the EK on Anglesey circuit in July or August and hopefully that will help me learn a few things and how to control my anger and temptation to floor it everywhere. As for hobbies I'm quite a chilled out person once out the car. I go to nature reserves, go walking a lot especially hill walking. I just feel completely different once I'm in the car.

Once again guys many thanks for the advice and stories on how you've learned to deal with going quickly and driving aggressively. I really am going to try and slow down a bit and only drive quickly in safe places that are out of the road and I can't harm others.

Get yourself on track, completely open environment and as long as you're diligent with other drivers and your limits its safe.

After travelling at high speeds on a circuit, anything you can do on the road seems not to live up to the sensation of being on track.

Actually I take it back! After your last post you would be safer on a bus!!

I've just read this entire post and I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering from depression man, that really sucks.

I will agree with about 90% of the people in the rest of the thread though and say; there is a time and there's a place for it, I don't think that you should drive recklessly in a 30 zone though man, that's kinda dangerous. I will be honest and admit that whilst I'm only 20, I drive like that sometimes, but I only like to go fast into corners/roundabouts, I don't see the point in racing people unless you're on the track, purely because of the consequences, you could get points, fines, or even worse you could have your license taken from you, and then the one thing that you see as a "release" is gone.

I also think that if you're going to drive fast, you should learn your own limits and the cars limits too. You might think you can go faster into that one bend but the car might think otherwise and you could lose control of the car, control over yourself and the car is very important.

I do think that motorsport or a hobby is a grand idea. Motorsport > hobby though, I think it'll teach you an element of control! :)

I never said to sell the car lol, just buy another car to use on the road and use the EK for motorsport or track days. Also never said that its the only contributing factor to drving dangerously. There are many other factors, didn't aim to sound stereotypical I was simply stating that your state of mind changes qquite dramatically when you jump into a high performance vehicle. It is mostly about self control and resisting the temptation to drive faster.

I just wanted to use your comment to make it clear that the car is the last thing affecting dangerous driving.. sorry if you took offence to it. i wasn't trying to make you out to be stupid dude.

To be fair I think u need to grow up. It's daft and dangerous driving like crazy for no reason

I think you should get your EK9 tuned, with a 3K rev limiter :nice:.

I think driving 70 in a 30 is f**king stupid mate, we all have our moments but that just shows a total lack of respect for anyone else around sorry.

Also, I admire you for having the balls to write this on a forum, people can be very judgmental.

It does make me laugh though how alot of people jump at this guy for admitting he speeds, but then accept Kanjo as being ok. I guess because it's so "JDM" it's 'cool'. Hypocrites.

Spot on, i also think those who have just been really offensive have been no help.

Imagine going to an alcoholic meeting and everyone there just says "you are a drunk mate, you need to help yourself"

Clearly by posting this thread the OP has started to understand he is not doing the right thing.

people are so quick to judge without being self awareness of their own ;)
I still speed from time to time.. who doesn't ?

I think you need to take the car to a track and get it out of your system.. or sell the car before its too late.

I had the same problem years ago. I Had a **** fast MR2 turbo when I was 25.. thought I was the bees knees. Got spotted by cops doing silly speeds 3 times, they didnt have time to react, and i thought it was cool at the time. but i decided to sell the car as i reckon i had my luck .

after a year i bought an EVO6. started on grand tipping along nicely. until an audi RS4 challenged me to a race.. I won, but I pushed that car through mad twisty roads to get that win, i got cocky again and was back to the idiot driving.

I bought an accord diesel and drove that for 3 years... all was quiet and relaxed.. but that urge was still in me to go fast.

then i came across an ek4 civic a few years ago, was a good going thing, so I bought it for track days.. then I let that crazyness out of me on track.

I bought an s2000 nearly 2 years ago and because i was getting my "fix" on track i wasnt hooning around as much as i was . but then the civic went off the track and guess what i was starting to act the maggot..

SO I took that S2000 to the track for a blast, and got a chance to push that car to the limit in a controled environment and had a blast. so I calmed down on the main roads.

but now i have an ek9 and only have it on the road a week, and im back to full throttle driving.. 9k rpm all the way with me doing a stupid giggle.. So Its for the track in a couple of weeks..

Id rather take it to the track and drive the lining of it there, as compared to bouncing it of a kerb in town or even a tree in the country..

its like a game of roulette, the mad driving on the roads will only be lucky for so long, then your gonna get it wrong.

Wowzers. Sounds like you need to get on a track. I know what you mean though, even though i dont do them speeds in them types of areas. Im 29 and drive like abit of a boob at times. But not dangerously. Usualy when a audi, bmw or merc is about givin it the johnny big bollocks. Maybe put ur performace figures on the back windscreen!lol. I love the ek9 because its under estimated by joe bloggs resulting in teaching a lesson or to. By all means drive fast, just keep it safe as poss and in the right places at the right time. I got pulled at 2am doin 100 mph on the m6 comin back from old trafford. They let me off with a slapped wrist. Because it was quiet. Result! Still got a clean liscence.

Several people have mentioned driving a slower car, this defiantly helps. I also have a 1L Nissan Micra, its sooo slow it struggles to go above 60 on the dual carriage ways. Plus acceleration take ages so when you get the speed limit, you just like to toddle along. When I drive it I'm so chilled, complete different when I drive the civic.

So maybe save the EK9 for the track and if you can afford it, buy a cheap slow run around.

Don't need to stop driving fast cars. Just need to grow up a tiny bit and learn when and where to drive like a loon.
