Quite a few panels on my ek have gone flat. (uk spec 96" Ek4, Frost white (NH538))

They have lost their shine, basically matte white, very rough, improved with a polish but still not great....basically a clay bar and a polish wont be enough.

I know all modern cars use 2 stage paint (base colour - clearcoat)

Anyone know which way Honda painted ours? As tbh bodywork isn't my forte and I'm not sure, looking at it, i'm guessing single stage??

Either way, it looks a bit poop, and I wanted to know if you think it is worth getting a mop on it and attempt to bring it back up to a nice shiny standard, then I can keep on top of wax and sealing it.

The only other option is a paint job ;/

Will try and get some pics of what I mean to help...

Cheers

You will be ok to mop it, just take care around edges,

If you don't have the equipment to mop it try meguirs ultimate compound by hand with a foam pad, seems to work alright

Thanks mate, that's good, if It is likely to come up with a mop, then I will defiantly get that done. I know someone who mops, so I may give him a shout.

If the paint is quite oxidised i find it helpfull to have a little water spray bottle handy and keep the panel damp otherwise the compound tends to dry out and stick,

Factory paint is pretty thin, hopefully the guy who does the mopping knows all this anyway :nice:

If you get a rag and some cutting compound like g3 and rub it by hand you should be able to tell if its single stage or lacquered. If the rag becomes coloured then you know its sinlge stage, but if it goes milky/ white then its lacquered - although on a white car it might be hard to notice the difference to the untrained eye! Easy on a red car for example. Personally id always try polishing before resorting to painting!
