Does my car need an SVA test?

Hi people, I was on the phone to the insurers(Admiral) as I thought its about time I get the car insured, from what I researched on I found that and imports older than 10 years old will only need VIN number insurance, MOT and Tax to be registered in the UK. The insurance company is telling me it also needs an SVA test but I'm sure that's only if the car is under 10 years old!

I'm a little lost now so any help would be appreciated.

The car is a 1997 EK9

No. If the car is older than 10 years it does not, I registered my 1999 EK4 SiR myself and after some hassle got it sorted, just this summer past too. Tell them to do some research! If the car needed an SVA it would have been done before being registered in this country.

The car isn't registered yet but I can still get insurance on the vin number, I told them I don't need an sva test as the car is over 10 years old. I was on the phone for three hours but the insurance 'specialist' said it needed a sva test, I just called up another insurer and insured through them, it was £50 extra but it was hassle free.

Insurance companies hire people that have no idea about how insurance works.

Good work, and least your company insured yours on the VIN, mine wouldn't insure me until I had number plates on it which was another spanner in the works for me lol
