this seems to be the right section for this...

I've been reading lots about body work now and it interesting but i keep seeing the word COMPOUND pop up.....

what is it... what sort of makes are there.... any good ones you can advise!!

also what sort of tools are used when it comes to spraying.
I mean like compressor's and stuff..

i know this seems vague but there are so many different types of kits availiable i feel i need a heads up before i purchase anything...

Basically i have a bonnet with orange peel and its too late to go back to the bodyshop now... as my car got written off before i could take it back but i'm now breaking the car so would like to get this orange peel out and if i F*** it up its no bother as the car has given back to me what it owes me so its a good practice... couple of people have said a wet sand with 1000 grade and compound.... hence my questions above lol.

feel free to move this where it needs to be but i think its the right place...

I would have thought 1000 is too abrasive to start with, I'm no expert either though. You could try an area with 2000 grit then move down if it doesn't seem to remove the orange peel to 1500 etc.

I use Farecla compound which is just like liquid sandpaper to remove sanding marks from wet sanding.

Here's a good resource site: Spray Painting Tutorial

ah ok so with compound so you simply you a buffer pad like a polishing pad on a machine polisher...??

I do not have any tools.. i will sanding by hand with a block...
Halfords have a little hand held mahcnie polisher for about £15 you rckon this'll do the job... just gonna be better than hand really. and i don't wanna get a mega powerful one as i am not trianed to use it although i do have understanding of the technique so to speak.
thanks for your help mate.
