Before you read this and tell me to look elsewhere, I know there are other threads about rear disc conversions but I need a 100% clear answer.

I'm looking to soon change my rear drums to discs on my EJ9 but this is the first time I've ever done anything like this so I need some help, how exactly do I do it? What do I need to change? Where do I get the parts?

This isn't urgent but I do need to know where to start as I am upgrading the brakes before a b-series conversion

Thanks

What size front brakes are you going to use?

What you need is a pair of rear trailing arms from a Civic with rear discs. There is a few on eBay for sale at the moment that will be worth looking at!

I'd say to go for Ek9 rear trailing arms, if you buy them complete they will have the larger 262mm rear brakes which will be a great upgrade.

Personally I'd buy a full ek9 front and rear brake conversion. 282mm front/262mm rear and 5x11.3 stud pattern will be perfect for a b series conversion!

I believe you'll need the rear trailing arms, discs, calipers, pads and brake lines/handbrake cable. You can get these from an ek4 vti if you want to stay 4x100 stud pattern.
As you said though there are plenty of threads already out there with the information you'll need so do some extra research to help :nice:

You may be better off just staying with drums to be honest if it's just a daily driver, I've read they are more powerful than disc brakes. From personal experience I've found the drums do hold the car better after testing on steep hills lol discs mainly look nicer though to some

First of all - well done for doing the brakes before swapping engines, a lot of people do it the other way round which is not a great idea... On top of what's been mentioned above you will likely also need a different proportioning valve, possibly a bigger master cylinder (if you go for EK9 brakes), different handbrake cables, and I'm not sure about brake hoses. There is a lot to consider and it is difficult to give you a straight answer as depending on what option you go for slightly different parts will be needed. Does your car have ABS? If it does, are you planning on keeping it? Also, bear in mind that if you do go for EK9 hubs your choice of wheels will be limited, there are a lot more 15'' and 16'' wheels available in 4x100 than there are in 5x114.3.

Following on from what the other 2 guys have said, for what it's worth I think you'd be much better off staying with drums on the back.

My mate has a b18 in his ej9 and hasn't had a problem! Running a Meister R brake kit up front and no ABS.

Cheapest way to get 282mm front and 262 rears is to buy a full set of 1.8 mb6 hubs with calipers / trailing arms with calipers, also get the master cylinder / servo and a set of handbrake cables and swap it all across, same performance for less money

As above, mb6 has the same parts as dc2/ek9 as far as I'm aware and generally are cheaper(strange but true)
Drum brakes are generally more powerful than discs but obvoiusly can't displace too much heat so prolonged punishment will see rear fade pretty quickly.
When changing to rear disc you will need a new proportioning valve as that is currently sending small amounts of pressure to the rear drums(more powerful bite needing less brake line pressure) without this you'll have poor rear brakes which isn't great for stopping distance.
If your removing ABS(requires afew lines made up and a non ABS prop valve) I have one for sale.
