Iv started stripping the rear trailing arms and need to get all the bushes / hubs removed so i can start prepping them for some paint.

Iv noticed theres alot of people who have started to powdercoat car parts but It doesnt prevent any rust and a thick layer of powder over badly prepped parts just dont do it for me. Most factory and aftermarket parts are painted so mines going back to paint!
There is some good work out there but in my opinion the powdercoat needs to stay on the bins and fences!

Last weekend i made a start on removing the trailing arm bushes.

All the bushings will be getting removed next weekend.

I got told burning out the rear trailing arm bushes is one of the easiest ways to get them out so i gave it a try.
I let it burn till it turned to ash and dropped out itself.

totally agree about powdercoat vs paint. Nothing beats a good prep, primer and topcoat. Once powdercoat chips which it does easily, you're pretty much screwed

Whoever told you burning the bushes out was a melon, get a hammer and knock them out ( hit them on the inside of the arm so they come outwards ) it takes about 1 minute to do if you got a good hammer. Ive just done mine and was shocked how easy it is, they were original bushes too.

You still have the outer metal casing of the bush stuck in the trailing arm so you'l still need to hit it out before putting new bushes in

Theres always a next time :angry2: i didnt do much apart from watch and take some pictures, it was one of my friends who was more hands on if im honest.
Im going to take them to the local garage to have them pressed once prepped.
Dont fancy damaging the paint and yeah like you said a good prep and paint is the best way imo.
Im going to 2k primer and flat them all down so its going to take a long time but should be worth it in the end!

Hubs off!

Thats one thing off the list now i need to get rest of the parts stripped so they can be sandblasted.

41108

Knocked out the outer ring for the trailing arm bush which i left in

- New rear wheel hubs
41111

I dont know if its just me but the new hub looks different to the old one.
Now this is the worst bit messing around with wrong parts which prolong everything.

Iv had these for a couple of months so i need to pull out the reciept and see if i can get it exchanged.

Now that iv got things moving its time i made some big progress so the real work can begin, i went down to Lincoln to have a chat with Andy Sharpe in person for some welding work.
For those of you who havent heard of him hes the go-to person for any resto or welding work. Not only is he good hes worked on alot of old hondas and fabricates his own bits so he knows exactly what hes doing!
Booked the car in with him so now i need to get it rolling ASAP!!

So here she is under the cover although theres nothing to cover lol.
Next weekend ill be making a start on scraping the underseal off the underbody.
Im planning on keeping it as original as possible without disturbing any of the factory sealant and have it all painted white once ready.

41119

Should look something like this when shes ready ^^

- With a short deadline ahead to get the car rolling i decided to give the local mechanic some work so i dropped off all the parts which needed bushings removing.
Not only im short of time i dont have a press either so the wise thing is to let someome else enjoy removing them instead.

- Rear hubs are now going to be getting refurbed with new bearings. This way ill still have all 4 original hubs with brand new matching bearing

-That was one thing off the list which meant i had a few hours spare to myself, so i popped down to my mates bodyshop to pull out the bodypannels i had left there and decided to start prepping.
Fingers crossed in the next month i hope to have all the body pannels into primer.

Full with dust but the wing itself is near mint!
Tried to get a close up shot of the odd few black dots which look like fresh specticles of rust but ill be putting a stop to them!

1 coat of rust inhibiting primer which is also used as a etch primer
Screenshot_20190407-135058.png

1 Medium coat of oxide primer this is also good on ferrous metals and protects against rust
Screenshot_20190407-135215.png

Finally 2 coats of high build 2k primer
The ones which noticed the little ripple in the wing and wondered why i didnt fill it :nerv:
Im going to block it out once all the pannels are in primer

-Another productive day today, I got around to priming the bonnet, n/s wing and tailgate.
The front filler bar needed some filler work so I left that for another day.

I've also picked up a ef9 front bumper with the OEM lip but it needs some work. once I get around to that and the fillerbar the front end will all be in primer

-Mind the E63 in the back:shocked:
Id already filled in the dings from before. I didn't go OTT with the pictures but just to show the ones who really care I sanded off the top layer of paint, etch/zinc,oxi and 2k primed all the pannels.

- The tailgate was already dewipered before my ownership so I flushed out the hole.
I don't think I'm ever going out of my way to source one to refit it. It's only going to hold water and rust so at least the smooth look should look better once it's painted.

This is how the bank holiday weekend went down!

I got both the doors ready which only leaves me with the filler bars and bumpers.
I'll be getting around to them once the cars back from the welders!

The same prepping process was followed out for all the pannels but I haven't added in all the photos so it doesn't get boring lol

The second door was cleaner than the first one.
Found a few spots of surface rust at the bottom which which I hadn't noticed when it was on the car but they all sanded away without a problem.
I'm pleased to know it was only tiny bits of surface rust which wasn't pitted into the metal.

Dug out the 282mm callipers which I had from my old mb6.
Although I wanted to keep the EF looking OEM with 14's iv finally decided to put these on.
They will be stripped and sent to the sandblasters soon.
