Building an EK9

Hello all,

So I'd like to build an EK9 but what do I do, where do I start, how do I do it etc.
Basically I'm a 19 yr old that has no clue about how to mod cars, I have yet to pass my driving test and I want to get an EK9 as a second car, get some no claims years behind my back with a different car.

I want to start my plan for an EK9 build but I don't know where to start, I was just hoping for some ideas (I was thinking about boosting it, maybe swap the engine to a K20) and some help as I really want to learn how to modify cars.

I have been saving since I was kid and have over 7k for the EK9 (not really here to talk about money but just giving a sense of what I can afford as I know this is really expensive) and save around 800 a month currently for an EK9.

I want something long term too, I want the car to last me at least 10 years time.

Thanks!

As you're quite young I would just buy a decent standard one and spend you're money on any maintenance work that is required. Such as service, brakes, tyres, bushes or balljoints thay might need doing and underseal if it hasn't been done already.

Insure it then just enjoy it for what the car is. Then go from there

Too many people have plans to modify this and that on cars they haven't even bought, Tend to forgot about the important maintenance bit.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

If I were you I would buy an ek9 shell and build it up from scratch. You have the money and the time, you just need the patience. These projects usually take a couple of years of research and effort and as it's a project car you won't be tempted to insure and drive it before you've gained enough experience to maintain it properly.

There's a company in south Wales named 'RMotion' that sometimes has shells in stock, you'll pay a bit more but the service from them is always good. I bought an engine from them a couple of years ago and had no problems so far. This forum also has a for sale area with people breaking cars that have shells of varying quality. Once you have a shell you can form a parts list and begin your research :)

I'd love to do something like that, the only problem is that I won't have anywhere to store the shell, renting a garage over here costs too much as well as they are privately owned :( I was thinking about importing a stock facelift EK9 from Torque GT in a few years time and just build from that

if it was me id buy a 1.4 EJ ( same shape/chassis as EK ) and mod that with parts that can later be put on a EK9 if wanted

Learn to drive the 1.4 for a few years, then go to a EK9 with the original engine, enjoy that for a while then worry about power. Jumping into a boosted Ek9 in your early 20's might not be a great idea unless you really know how to drive

Get insurance quotes while guessing your age and amount of no claims that you expect to drive it, that will give you some idea on price, where you live also makes a difference
