Right, a little update here. Basically, I'm aware my costs are too high as I'm having to outsource manufacture, it makes the price high and lead times long as I need to batches of 6 to get a decent price. This just isn't viable as a product or a small business, really I think these need to retail at under three figures to see keen interest.
So instead, I'm looking to buy my own laser engraver. A decent one isn't cheap, and it's not the sort of shreddies I have laying around, so I'm thinking of doing a Kickstarter funding project to raise the money I would need.
If you're not familiar with Kickstarter, it's a crowd funding project where I say "I need ££££ amount of money to do X, Y and Z, if you fund me I will give you something nice in return." I set a goal, say £8000, to buy the machine, and offer rewards for different levels of support, my main one in this case will be one of these A3 blueprints in return for say £100.
If I make the target, your card gets debited with the amount you pledged, I buy the machine and produce your products. Crucially, if I don't make the target, no-one gets charged any money, and I don't get a penny. It's all or bust, so I have to be realistic with the goal, offer great rewards and get the word out as much as possible.
So, if I set this up and offer these for around the £100 mark, can I count on some support from you guys? Even if £100 is still a bit too high for you, you could also support the project by posting it on other forums, via facebook. I'll need exposure just as much as the money!
What say ye? Shall I do it?
