Best Cams for Mid Range (Broad Power Band)

Hi EK9.org,

I'm looking for camshaft advice for my B20V powered EK. The car is a rally car and a broad power band is significantly more important than peak hp numbers.

I wanted to know what my best option is for this application. I'm guessing I'm stuck with stock VTEC cam options as I don't see why any aftermarket manufacturer would make a cam for mid-range on a Honda, maybe I'm wrong? If so, please inform me!

If I do have to stick with the stock selection, my options are B16A, GSR, and CTR/ITR cams. Will NON-VTEC B18/B20 cams fit the VTEC head? I'm just assuming the CTR/ITR cams won't be what I want as they sacrifice low end and move the power-band upward for peak hp.

Any other advice for keeping the powerband in the mid-range vs peak? I will be running a 4-2-1 manifold and a cold air intake. Does anyone have experience with the AEM V2 dual chamber intake? How does it affect the power-band vs their regular CAI? Does exhaust pipe sizing matter, back pressure?

Cheers,

Got skunk2 tuner stage 1 in my b18c4, same center line as oem c4 cams and nice torque/hp gains.
also Integra R airbox resonator removed with cai still retains the tuned length.
look at Integra R spec exhausts mani and cat back good power good design for guidence.

I'm using skunk2 pro1 cams in one of my engines and they have a pretty much flat torque curve, can post a dyno graph if you wish, I am very impressed with them as I have the same torque a 4k rpm as 8k

im a big fan of the Pro1's too

Really nice power from them and proven to be reliable too

spare b18c on the ground ill be building soon is going to be getting a set me thinks!

The exhaust manifold will be the biggest power adder on a B series engine.

Choose wisely!
