EK9/Civic
In aftermarket parts you get what you paid for.

Lets start with a good exhaust / catback system, depending on your budget you can get a good exhaust at a good price, try to get exhausts from good brand, for example, mugen, spoon, 5zigen etc.

My recommendation for the B16B/B16A is the Mugen Twinloop exhaust, it gives you good torque gains.

Next step, get a header, depending on your budget you can get one new, or a second hand one, spoon, mugen, vibran and 5zigen are good headers. Stay away from cheap ones.

Get a Intake, in my opinion the best intake is the Mugen one, but you can get other brands with the same designs for a better price (comptech). If you're going to get a intake that doesn't have a heat isolation box, just buy a K&N filter and use your OEM honda intake box.

Get some lighter wheels, you're going to loose like 20 pounds of unsprung weight with lighter wheels, (if you use 15 inch size). SSR Type C are the lightest, but you can use also a set of volk te37, desmond regamaster evo, or some imitations like Rota, some Rota wheels are like 11 - 13 pounds each, so is a good option if your budget is not that high, keep in mind that oem ek9 wheels, weight like 15 pounds each.

Next, get a good set of tires. You have a lot of options, advan, kumho, toyo, are good tire brands.

I recomend, the ventus RS2, they got a lot of grip, they grip even better than the advan RE01.

If tire "mileage" is a issue, you can get the kumho ecsta mx, they will last forever hehehe.

And if you want serios GRIP get the advan neova a048 :nice:

Anyways the purpose of this guide is to help new users who doesn't know how to start to mod their car, with this mods you'll enjoy your car, I consider you should get a ecu remap + tune if you want to take full advantage of your mods.

Keep in mind, that its your car, and you can do whatever you want to it, this guide is for reference only :nice:

Nice post.

A was going to do the following:

Comptech Ice Box
5zigen Header
5zigen Muffler
Hondata + remap

And then just take it easy for a while.

I am going for the 5zigen strictly because of price.

Nice mods, Honda Gods are happy with your choice :)

good advise those are the areas i foucused on (while i was employed and earning good money!)

i went for a j's racing cat back 60rs (got it for a v.good price)
5ziegen header
aem v2
te37's bronze 15" with kummo escata rubber

it had when i bought it
standard header
hks silent hi power
standard induction without the box had a cheapo looking cone filter
advan rc alloys

was going to get a re-map to get everything working in harmony still what ive done has made a big difference performance wise

i'm away to buy an ek9 with a mugen cf intake, a mugen twin loop exhaust sytem and an unknown exhaust manifold/header

would mapping the car give me more bhp and torque?

I'd like to know this also! Is there a specific header out there that has significant torque gains as compared to the others?

Yes, I was able to drop down almost half a second of my 1/8 time with a aftermarket ecu, so if you have the budget, do it! :nice:

You want torque you should have bought a variation of the b18c, stop trying to focus on your engines shot comings and focus on its strengths and build a nasty high revving high power beast!

If your still die hard on your quest for more low end grunt there are 3 ways to get more low end out of the b16b

-4.9 FD or close ratio gear set
-Forced induction
-Stroke it using b18c crank/rods/pistons

You must remember that your long term goals for the car must coincide with what mods you start with.
For example, if you're planning on building a big power turbo motor, you shouldn't get a name brand 60mm exhaust made for a stock car, or an intake, and especially not a header.
It will of course save you the most money to set a goal for what you want from your car and build towards that with carefully selected mods.

Whatever car I have, I would start with a few things-
-Lightweight and strong wheels. Ex: Enkei RPF1, volk C28's or RE30's, or Kosei K1's.
-Sticky, yet streetable tires with a harder sidewall in the 200 wear rating range. Such include Faken RT615, Hankook RS2, and Kuhmo XS.
-Aftermarket street/track compound pads. Even if I was building a car for the track, and was saving up for a stronger braking setup, I would get some good street/track pads so I could have fun with the car in the meantime. It's one of those mods that are great bang for the buck, like a cheap intake. Even if you're eventually building towards something better, mods like street-track compound pads are cheap enough to be a worthy mod while you save or build towards what you really want.

To add info to this thread, I'll like to share photos of the Mugen Intake. This is a dc2 one :nice:

Well this went out of the window and currently my mods are:

B18C
98 spec header
DC2 air box with cold intake (to be fitted Sunday)
Mugen Twin Loop
Smashed out cat

Still going for a Hondata S300 plus tune though and may go for an aftermarket header.

Also need:

Lighter wheels
Better pads
RS2 tyres

I was about to ditch my Mugen Intake coz my friend told me to change it to a Ram air type intake to achieve more HP. After reading this thread, im confused.

Imho you should add a part to the intake part about modding the OEM intake: take away the resonators, run 4" piping from bumper to airbox, 2,5" or 3" from airbox to TB and a good filter in the box. Some guys at HT got some VERY big gains, while it only costs a fraction of the Mugen price. But nice thread for beginners.

I have a 1.8L stroker kit already...which is why I asked....and remember....everyone tunes to their liking....
