Hey there,
Deeply sorry if this was already posted, I searched for quite a long time either on this forum or internet but couldn't find any proper information, especially as my english isn't my native language, it's kinda difficult to find what I'm looking for when the french community is basically telling you to find everything by yourself (what's the point of a forum then ?)
Anyway, bought recently a 96 EJ9 and I'm looking to upgrade the front bumper as the previous owner probably scratched the original one, and it was replaced by a normal on, but in some kind of plastic, fully black while my civic is grey. So it was in my top priority to change that, and I love the design of the backyard. From what I understood IT IS mountable on my ej9 prefacelift, but I'd love confirmation.
And also I'm really curious about the install, do I need to do some more modification or everything will be in place, just need to install it as my current bumper ?

I found this one for example : https://www.alwaysjdm.com/en/front-...namics-honda-bu-cv96-by-f-a?Product=881818788
Not sure how am I going to install it, and also how can I know if that's plastic or metal ? Because it's the exact color of the plastic one that I've right now and I don't want a cheap bumper, I'd like to paint it too.

Hope anyone will be able to help a complete newbie to this, just trying to do things by myself but it's not always as easy as it looks !

What bumper comes metal? They're either plastic or fibreglass. The link you posted. The image shown looks like a bumper for 1999-2000 Civic, judging from headlight shape.

If you do get a 1996-1998 bumper, it'll bolt on. If its not, you're looking at replacing bonnet, front wings, headlights and core support.

Okay I feel dumb, always thought bumper would be in metal too, previous owner installed a plastic bumper without any paint so I thought it was just a cheap replacement without paying the price for a metal one, but okay, good to know

So even if a website says it's suitable for a 96/98 I should worry because it is mountable only by changing bonnet/wings/HL/core sup right ?

Because this one has the exact same picture than my previous link even tho they say it's compatible with 96/98.
I guess it is but you need to changes components before then

Appreciate the fast answer, deeply sorry for the delay I had a lof of things to deal with lately

I really have an hard time to spot the diff between 96/98 and 99/00 ngl
Seems like the headlights are the biggest hint but still can't be 100% sure
On my latest link they show the bumper mounted but I can't tell if that's a facelifted civic or not

Picture is of 1996-1998 Civic.

Just to add. I actually ordered that Backyard Aerodynamics bumper from Always JDM a while ago for my ‘97 EJ9.
Fitment was spot on, and the quality is really decent (polypropylene, not fiberglass).
I painted it in OEM silver and it looks great.

So yeah, if you go for the one they sell, it does fit the 96–98 front without any extra mods. Always JDM shipped pretty fast too, no issues at all.
