Hi guys..

Firstly don't flame because I drive an EG and I'm posting on an ek9 forum. But I seriously need advice and opinions..

So to cut a long story short... I've spent loads of time and money building my D16A9 engine non vtec turbo

Had it on road for 2 days and I was loving it. It drove flawless until the 2nd day..

One of the oil cooler hoses dropped out it's place and rubbed against the driveshaft gaiter clip .. pierced a hole and sprayed oil everywhere. This was due to the bodywork guys lowering my oil cooler and not fixing the hoses securely.

Anyways the damage was already done .. engine was starved within seconds. So bye bye to all that money and time spent.

I've built the whole car up and was fresh out the spray booth so I can't give up now.

So I'm in the dilemma now of k20 or bseries (b18c4) turbo. I have sourced an mb6 vti which I will use as a donor car.. but not sure which route to go down. Should I k20 it instead? Keeping it n/a I know k20ing the EG is A LOT more work and fabrication required but the engine is so reliable.

I can salvage the whole boost kit and bolt straight on to a b18c4.. possibly upgrading to a ramhorn manifold.

Would love some thoughts and opinions.

Definitely with what you already have there, go C4 turbo.

K20 is starting from scratch and it's a lot of headache sourcing bits and selling everything you have on.

Well that really sucks! on the 2nd day too as if :( b18c4 sounding like the option I'd lean more towards in that situation

@Pete180 @Tahir

Thanks for the replies... Yeh I really admire n/a k20s but when you boost d or b series its so addictive and hard to look back... My d16a9 was super torquey.. it's a shame I can't source that engine again because it's so rare..

So B18c4 it is. I'm away to get this donor mb6 vti on the 4th of August.

Hoping I won't have too many issues with wiring looms. I know my EG jdm spec Si is obd0 but mb6 might be obd1 or 2?

Not a lot of my friends are into tuning hondas like me lol more into financing mercs etc..

So I'm left to do it all alone.. But I love it really it's my therapy

Thanks again for any advice given

Like Tahir and Pete said I'd go B18c4 of you want to keep some of your existing bits , if you have an mb6 am sure there is a lot of bits you can swap over, am sure the mounts will drop straight into an eg, as well as the brake setup.

@qasim That's definelty the plan.. use what I can. Then scrap the shell.

Also I am just looking for a reliable boosted engine. Been seriously thinking of going down the forged route. What do you guys think ? Not looking for insane power. Just want something quick and reliable. My builds for reliability over short term insane power.

I've read online the boosted b18c4 with a good tune is reliable up to 250-300bhp. Once it's built I want to have piece of mind when I boost. Knowing I'm not going to blow or crack sleeves etc.

I've already lost a few buck with the d16a9 bottom end going. So not looking to go mental on £££ Just looking to salvage what I can and use things of the mb6 for my new conversion.

If it means forging is compulsory, I will do it that way. But if it's not needed then it's a bonus for me.

I'm not a qualified mechanic or anything just do this as a hobby. So apologies in advance for any dumb questions.
