Right ....

Starting this project soon and will post a thread as me and the Mrs split up i dont need this Tank's (MB6) endless boot anymore and seeing my EJ9 in such a way made me want to bring it back from the dead.

So I am soon buying back my EJ9 which after a year with a different owner it has seen better days. I plan to sort eveything out do a brake swap etc and then take the engine out of my 1.8 VTi (MB6) and drop it into the shell when ready.

I have searched the internet for weeks now with no real answer to my questions just suggestions etc nothing that makes me feel confident im doing the right thing.

My questions are about the electrics which I am no expert on but will try and turn my hand to anything.

So if anyone could shed some light from there own experience or post some links that might help me I would greatly appriciate it.

I plan to add a Skunk2 inlet manifold as from what I have seen this makes the swap easier. Also I will be adding a new exhuast, manifold back. Going to keep the standard cams etc for the moment untill I can afford a S300.

Questions ......

1. What loom to use ?

I have gathered from searching there are 2 common ways of doing it. Firstly to use a loom from a EK4 1.6 VTI and secondly to use the MB6 loom. Now my problem is not getting either of these but what to do with them to make them useable in my conversion. From what i can tell you need to modify them but how is were I seem to come up blank.

2. What ECU to use ?

I have seen so many different makes and modles suggested i am now all in a muddle and cant for sure pick one. Bearing in mind i want it to be as easy as possible e.g Plug and play or same again with a conversion harness. As i will be doing the conversion on the weekend and will need the car on the Monday so dont want to spend hours tinkering with an ECU.

Any help on these matters would be great as I am so confused about these 2 areas.

Thanks in advance

Ben

Questions ......

1. What loom to use ? EK4 VTI loom will be best to use. If the EJ9 is 96-98 then a obd2a vti loom will be required or if facelift 99-00 model then obd2b is the one you need

2. What ECU to use ? AFAIK a P72 ecu is what you need. if using a mb6 ecu then you will need the key and black box under dash due to the factory immobilizer built into ecu

As for engine mounts hopefully you will be able to reuse the mb6 mounts. I have not worked on any mb6 so can't say for sure. You will need a vti rad and at minimum a vti hatch catback exhaust or aftermarket

Thanks for the reply by the way been alot of help just confirming things for me.

So this loom should do the trick as my EJ9 is a 98:

honda civic ek4 vti obd2a engine loom b16 b18 obd2 on eBay (end time 21-Mar-10 10:44:26 GMT)

And would this ECU work ?

Honda civic vtec ecu 1.8 VTi MB6 integra P9K B18C4 P72 on eBay (end time 20-Mar-10 12:37:50 GMT)

As for the mounts, im going to upgrade them all some of the MB6 ones can be re used but im going to replace them all with VTI ones. Exhuast im thinking upgraded mani, EK9/dcs cat and a spoon N1 with a custom B pipe.

Thanks again, you have been a real help ! Rep added :)

Yes thats the loom you need. As for ecu thats a chipped ecu which he puts a map on, IMO not a good idea as he can only guess what map to stick on there and theres a good chance it won't be correct, worst case it runs dangerously lean or it runs very rich making it heavy on fuel and under powered. If going down the route of chipped ecu then have it mapped by a tuner to suit your setup. You should be able to find a scrapped mb6 which you can take ecu out of.

Nice one, well I have the entire car as its my current run around. Im going to steal the engine and calipers off it so i dont see why i cant take that ECU out and send it to a tunner for them to map it.

Il have to do some reserch into tunners for this kind of thing in my area.

Anyone got any recomended tunners ?

Think i remember a guy called Roman being mentioned before. Cant for the life of me remember the company but im sure a quick search on here will fix that.

You will need a obd1 ecu to chip and tune with crome or ectune software whichever your tuner uses. I imagine the ecu in the mb6 is a obd2 which can't be chipped. The standard mb6 ecu will surfice to get you up and running

Thanks again guys.

So just to confirm I can use the standard ecu with a conversion harness and VTI loom to get things up and running and after say a month drop a S300 in there and have it mapped properly ?

Thanks m4rk181983 saved me some time, which i dont have alot of at the mo :)

When you say standard ecu you mean the ecu from mb6 correct? If the mb6 ecu is obd2a then it should plug straight into the vti loom without need for jumper harness. When you go hondata s300 you will need a obd1 ecu i.e P30,p28 etc. which will be socketed to accept the s300 board and at that point you will require a obd2-obd1 jumper harness allowing you to plug the obd1 ecu in to your car.

All you'll need to buy are two engine brackets the one that bolts under the cam belt cover and the other at the rear of the engine. You have everything else you need from both car

Part number:

will send you details of wiring later, how to convert the mb6 engine loom and how to connect the immobiliser.

Here's what i did with the wiring

C101 connector, large grey connector on drivers side of engine compartment. On the
MB6 the C101 has 14 wires there is also a 2 wire connector near by with black/yellow and black/white wires so 16 wires in total.

On the EJ9 the C101 has 10 wires. The plan is to build a conv harnest, once you know all the fuctions of the wires its just a matter of matching them.

Cut MB6 engine loom between the C101 and where it enters the drivers compartment.
Cut EJ9 engine loom between the C101 and the engine.
Join the wires with same function, the remaining wires have to be extended to the passanger side to the ECU.
On the passanger side of the engine bay of the MB6 there are 3 connectors on the engine loom, it then merges with the chassis loom. Simply remove the insulation and seperate the wires that run to the ECU, these are the ones you will need.

Inside the MB6 on the passanger side under the dash cut the wires that run from the ECU to the drivers side (17 wire). cut as close to the drivers side as possible.

Inside the EJ9 next to the ECu there is a green connector C131. cut the wires between the C131 and the ECU. (14 wires)

NOW your ready to connect all those wires you cut.

Hope you can read my diagrams which follow.

The only connection not shown in the diagrams is the power and ground for the P9K ECU, (A12 & A13 connects to C101 [5] EJ9), (A25 & B1 connects to C101 [2] EJ9)
These wires will need to be extended from the ECU to the engine bay.

Immobiliser - unplug EJ9 transponder and connect MB6 transponder per attached. strap your mb6 key to the sending unit and you are ready for lift off!!!

I've got pinouts of both ECUs if you need.

good luck!

hi thiier i have printed off your diagrams and have spent all day cutting wires and conneting them.I have cut c101 off my mb6 and cut c101 off ej9 and connected mb6 one to ej9 their was 6 wirs left over and have extended them across down in to foot well to connect to c131 as you have stated.I am now really stuck i have the 6 wires connected but now have the 17 wires left over from when i cut out the mb6 to go to driver side.I understand i have to join them to c131 but wires come from all 3plugs from ecu so how do i tell which ones are to connect.many thanks sam

the diagram that shows the c131 is the one you need to use, the letter and number in the circle relates to the wire position on the ecu plugs A, B and D. (for example: red wire on connector c131 position 5 should be connected to plug D position 2) if you can source a pin out diagram for the p9k ecu that would make it easier. hope this helps.

hello there

JAMROCK
i do a b18c4 conversion
i will use mb6 engine loom with p9k ecu
i think is a mistake in ( The only connection not shown in the diagrams is the power and ground for the P9K ECU,{ (A12 & A13 connects to C101 [5] EJ9), (A25 & B1 connects to C101 [2] EJ9)
These wires will need to be extended from the ECU to the engine bay.)}

A12 IS NEGATIVE(POWER GROUND) AND A13 IS POSITIVE(POWER SOURCE) , RIGHT ?
THEN I MUST CONECT A12&A25 IN C101 [2] EJ9 AND
A13&B1 IN C101 [5] ... AM I RIGHT OR MISTAKE ?
PLEASE REPLY BECAUSE I'M LITTLE DIZZY
THANK YOU !
SORRY MY ENGLISH
