Hi all,

I've picked up a JDM B18C and want to do a factory refresh such as new timing belt/tensioner, oil/water pump, doing valve stem seals, valve guides, port & polish, head skim etc.

while I'm doing this I was planning on building the head with
skunk2 tuner cams (stage 1 or 2) with cam gears if stage 2
Skunk titanium retainers
skunk dual valve springs
skunk high comp valves
upgrade fuel pump and rdx 410cc injectors
Basically want to have a fresh engine with around 215bhp.

However I was advised by an engine builder not to change the cams and just rebore 81.25 and fit EK9/B16B O/S pistons to raise compression and should get similar power. I've done a lot of searching through old threads on this and else where but just looking for a second opinion on specs above. Thanks

Cams and an increase in compression need to go hand in hand to get the full effect.
215bhp from a skim and cams is a bit of an ask.

"high comp valves" are not worth it. I expect you'd be ok on stock valves with those cams too.
Titanium retainers are not needed unless you're trying to rev to the moon - get steel ones for 1/3rd of the price.

You would get there abouts with the EK9 pistons thrown into the mix. You'd have to overbore anyway. When I did this I need to go up to 81.5 (because of piston availability.

Thanks for the reply.

I will be taking advice on boring out to 81.25. I'm going to go with wiesco pistons instead of PCT.
I can go with 11.7 or 12.5:1 CR. Is 11.7 enough compression for stage 2 or am I better to go with stage 1 cams. I dont really want to go much higher compression as the fuel here in Ireland is bad.

PCT pistons give ~12.5 IIRC CR in an B18C - because of the longer stroke. Just make sure you use the figures for the 18C not 16A/B.

I imagine 11.7 would be fine, but I'm not an expert on that. Is there any documentation relating to your chosen CAMS?

John
