EK9 Racecar

Manifold is coming along.
2" pipe was heated and rolled to match the collector to get a nice flow of gases.

Fair play for taking on this challenge! looks like its going to work well. Are you going to back purge when welding? If not I would seriously consider doing so to ensure a nice proper strong weld. keep bringing the updates

Thanks! I like do like a challenge!
Yeh man I'll purge the manifold and downpipe. I usually use tin foil to block the holes and I've got a spare argon canister that I use for purging.
It's only tacked ATM for mocking up.

Put the log manifold on the engine stand today with the old turbo housing and old downpipe so I could make a jig for the new downpipe.
It's very g-fab but it's all I had to hand!
IMG_3350.JPG

This enables me to know where the downpipe has to go too.

All of the coolant lines for the turbo and wastegate had to be re plumbed. That's all done :D only pipe left to do is the oil return for the turbo.
All that's left to do now is to finish making the downpipe and wastegate tube.

I like how you make your bends, leave a huge gap and stick a pie cut in

It's the only way I could do it tbh, I don't really have the kit to make proper bends. To any real fabricator it probably looks like a piece of s**t but it worked!

That's going to be mint! FairPlay doing it yourself looks like a pig of a job lol

Just realised that after all the excitement I've forgotten to update my thread!
So! After getting the manifold fitted and downpipe made I used the car for a few days to make sure the setup was leak free ready for its next tune.
I had to modify the boost pipe set up coming off the turbo to the intercooler because of the change in orientation of the compressor housing.
IMG_3426.JPG

Luckily @jesse888 was able to come and do another tune on Saturday 24th June!
So we hit the roads of Mexico and started tuning again! Things went really well up to 1.2bar but we were having a problem working out a few issues. @jesse888 did a fantastic job and we soon worked out the problem!
All I can say is the car is fast! We don't know power figures yet but it feels so good! We were spinning the wheels in 4th gear
Our next step of tuning is going to have to be on the dyno, as the roads in Mexico get a bit crowded!
On my max boost controller setting I get a peak of 1.59 bar but it's more like 1.3bar at the red line, we'll get more out of it yet! But a dyno is needed lol.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, @jesse888 has done a great Job tuning my car he knows his stuff and his attention to detail and tuning is quality and safe! I wouldn't trust anyone else with it! Dyno next mate! We'll have to book a group session for Jesse tuned cars!

On the Sunday I went to a local car show with my Dad and friends, took my brother-in law out in the ek9 and he was very quiet..... I asked if he was ok lol. Turns out he was a little scared of how fast the car was :nerv: ooops!
I love it! More to come yet where power is concerned!
Got to love a rolling burnout.

I've also really enjoyed driving the car on the road again, so I'm actually going to put some of the interior back in! Just to make it more useable.

More small updates coming soon, plus track day end of the month

So! Haven't updated in a little while so here it goes!
Since the last update I'm sorting out the front of the car looks wise, so got a cheap genuine Honda prefacelift bumper to play around with. I kind of like the green lol! Plan is once I'm happy with how I want it to look I'll get it painted.

With a track day looming I've done another alignment as I wasn't happy with the old one. And the new alignment worked really well!
IMG_3566.JPG

Not 100% happy, as the cambers wouldn't match. Need to look into modifying the turrets so you can fine tune the alignment from the engine bay!

Loaded up the trailer and headed off for Snetterton for a trackday on the 24/06.
IMG_3598.JPG

The car ran faultlessly all day, really happy with the alignment and the engine, I ran 1bar boost. As you can see it was a very wet trackday.... was great fun driving in the wet though.

I have a couple of other photos from Msv but they're too large to post on here.
Got some footage on the GoPro this time! Nothing special but still great fun.

Been waiting for these for a little while! And boy they were worth the wait! those that know my car, will know I've always had doggy looking blue seats which have always let the car down.
IMG_3729.JPG

This seat will now be used in our rover metro track car though.
Thanks to a friend, he supplied me with two Cobra Imola profit seats in red.

I'd tried these seats in Merlin Motorsports so I knew they fitted me well.
Got round to fitting them this morning.

Next plan is to book another track day, and interior wise fit the rear plastics back in and carpet the back with the carpet pictured, would like to put a rally style net in the back.... maybe.

Also I'm on the hunt for some ek9 door cards, and handbrake surround! If you have them message me!

Bit gutted that all our build threads are now pictureless thanks to photobucket.
Why not just make everyone's photos viewable and accept your company has gone down the toilet and not block all photos and charge a 400 dollar yearly subscription.
Thanks photobucket, for ruining our build threads and making forum life harder than it needs to be.
