Okback from the dead !
I got feeler gages in tho and won't to do my valve lash again because last time I only had mm and it was at the very top and bottom of the spec ,

Feeler gage now is .006 .008 but no .007
Can I double up with .004 and .003 to make up .007 ?
So I can do in .007 and ex .008 .
Or do people just go with in .006 ex.008
Sorry for stupid questions any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the best lee.

I'm doing a valve adjustment tomorrow but iv only got feeler gages in mm and not sure what ones to use I will post a pic of the gage sizes that I have ,all help is greatly appreciated.

In 0.15 ? Ex 0.20 ? Just not sure what ones to use

According to the Internet using
15 on Intake and
20 on exhaust
Then that will leave you in spec, but at the very bottom of intake and the very top of exhaust.
If you want to do the job properly then buy a larger range of feeler gauges.

I was thinking the .15mm given that a loose feel and the .20mm bringing that too the tight as it gets?

The feeler gauge set you have is fine to do the job. Just use the 0.15mm/0.006thou for the inlet, and 0.20mm/ 0.008thou for the exhaust.
If that is the correct tolerances that Leej8 and jesse888 then your ready to do your valve clearances :) generally unless working on classics, all manufactures state the valve clearances in mm. A lot of people including myself convert it to thou.

That's grand thanks very much, just wasn't sure as most people seem to do it in the thou ,and the .15mm and .20mm just seam to be ,a bit of gap from .15 too .20 .
That's what put me off.

No worries, it can be a bit confusing! But you've got the right set to do it. If you did it 15 and 20 thou she'd rattle like a good'n!!

The tolerances I've found are
006-007(0.15-0.17mm) intake
007-008(0.17-0.21mm) exhaust
So your tight on the intake and loose on the exhaust but you are within clearance. Personally I'd like it in the middle of both because that's just me.

Thanks Jesse iv posted an update of valve adjustment before and after, when you are not busy can you tell me if it sounds ok , iv not readjusted my timing belt tension yet I will do that tomorrow, thanks a lot mate.

Before valve lash adjustment
After valve lash adjustment
Car sure drives better I could feel more power straight away,
Hows it sound to you? Iv still to adjust me timing belt to get rid of that whining sound

Car drives alot better now,
Some of the valves on the in were .25mm and .20mm  miles off .
The ex were no better . She seems right as rain now thanks for all your help.
All the best lee

You can double up as long as they are clean and dry between the blades

i have snap on feeler gauges and they are imperial as they are American however they show the metric equivalent to thou on each blade and there are a lot of blades. The conversion Isn't as nice as 006 is equal to .15 etc, it's close but imperial and metric don't just convert to whole numbers like that. I'll be at the garage tomorrow and I'll take some pics for you or there's probably a table you can look up online. Anyway I have two blades that I use and as far as I can remember they both land almost in the middle of spec for inlet and exhaust clearance.

I've never actually done a valve adjustment, really should get round to that lol
You can always go alittle bit loose on a 006 to get your 007 but this might take some experience to get it reliably.

Yeh you can use 3thou and 4thou to make 7 thou. Just make sure there's no debris between the two gauges.
