As above has anyone had experience with Gripper diffs, looking at buying a LSD for my k20 gearbox.

I have one in my K swapped EG.

Pretty hardcore for road... need an unsprung clutch aswell really.

Thanks, why would I need to use a unsprung clutch? would I be better off buying a Quaife for the road?

I have done 2 clutches in under 2k miles... and have been told that low speed manouvering with Grippers kills them as they are harsh... an unsprung clutch would help apparently BUT my 1st clutch was the one already in the car with unknown mileage on and probly a cheap copy not OEM. The 2nd was an RPC stage 2 clutch which did 1200 road miles before I did a trackday but only last around 12 laps... I spoke to the supplier who revealed they had a bad batch of clutches and promptly sent me another clutch FOC and upgraded it to the Stage 3 paddle type.. I have just fitted that and running it in at the mo....

Hi

I'd look at the MFactory Helical, they come with a lifetime warranty and are perfect for both road and track. If its a dedicated track car then most definitely go for a plated version, this is what we use in Civic Cup cars.

Thanks
Thanks for your reply, the car will be used many for the road but as a weekend car and some track days will take a look at the M factory range of diffs.

Sounds like you have had some bad luck, being that a plate diff is always locked do you have to slip the clutch more when pulling away and manoeuvring.

Would be surprised to here the diff was killing clutches, driveshafts of course.

You dont have to drive it any diffrent on the road, they just clunk and grab in lock at slow speeds.. On track they are a diffrent beast altogether... you need to drive through the corner as the diff pulls you through and tightens your line... they really are EPIC on track.

As above about them being epic!
When driving on the road I usually try to accelerate round the corner, this locks the diff and stops the clunking.
Of try and keep the wheel as straight as pos but you got to turn lol

2 diffrent big tuners in this country told me otherwise.

Weren't trying to sell you a clutch?
Wasn't the tuner that sold you the failed clutch?
Had plate LSD's for afew years now and never experienced any clutch issues.
Ive never heard of people having clutch issues with plate LSD and a lot of us on here use them.
In fact I would have thought a sprung clutch would work better as it would dampen the driveline shock abit? Perhaps that's barking up the wrong tree

You have to slip/ride the clutch a little if trying to pull away smoothly with lock on but not much.

I used a oem dc2 clutch when I had a cusco diff.
I know it's not a k but the principle is exactly the same

I'd be interested to hear anyone who has had clutch problems there caused by the LSD and not just a cheap/poor clutch.

No wasnt same tuner who sold me the clutch, clutch supplied by Tegiwa.

I had a Cusco plate LSD in my old EE9... that tore the matireal off the plate of a Exedy stage 1 clutch plate too, whilst on track... maybe its just me!

Wow that's pretty harsh stuff lol I've never even overheated a clutch in my ek9s.
Genuinely never heard of this before until now.
My current kazz LSD was run on a stock 100k miles clutch(pre turbo build) and has been for a good 3-4 years now. Diff is really snatchy aswell.
How odd.

Had a mfactory plated diff in my last build and was an awsome piece of kit and I've drove with a few diffs

I dosent overheat the clutch, it rips the material off, usually on down shift... as you can see, no sign of over heating.

I take it you don't heel toe? You'd think that the clutch would just slip wouldn't you. Not rip apart like that!
