As quoted from Pistonheads:

"Talking about the next Civic Type R with chatty Honda R&D man Suehiro Hasshi and his translator (and off-duty race driver) Kotaro Yamamoto the conversation inevitably turns to other high performance Hondas. Specifically, whether we'll ever see another S2000. .

Next NSX has been much teased in concepts, It's uncertain if Hasshi-san really knows the answer to this, but he's clearly happy to speculate. Ticking them off on his fingers, he runs through the performance machinery Honda used to offer in order of capability: the Beat, the Type R, the S2000 and the NSX.
He then checks them back in again, "The NSX is confirmed to come back. The Beat is confirmed to come back. The Type R is confirmed to come back..." He wiggles the finger representing the S2000, "There's no-way this one doesn't come back."

What any future S2000 equivalent would be called is undecided, and Hasshi-san also admits that, "honestly speaking there is no complete plan." But it seems there is most definitely an ambition to see it compete amongst the very best in terms of driving enjoyment once again.

Beat replacement previewed as EV-STER and if you're wondering about the return of the Beat, that's a reference to the Kei-class sports car Honda's shown repeatedly in EV-STER concept form over the last two years. Apparently it's been given the green light."

Sounds like they are looking to bring back an S2000 *Type* car into the market, which might be promising. As Honda are looking to be more economical , could we possibly see a Stock Turbo F-series engine?

Interested in hearing people's thoughts on the matter. :p

it seems Honda might be heading in the right direction, it'll be very interesting to see what comes of it
i wouldn't rate the s2000 to be ahead of the type r line-up in terms of performance.

Tbh f/I is the only way they can go, they can't stay n/a because the competition is running more power than they can get from n/a whilst remaining the kind side of tax and emissions laws.
Perhaps a 2.0 supercharged unit making 300hp? Call it honda s3000.

Been a long time coming from Honda really, after the ep3 they should have developed an f/I unit. All IMO obviously

the day for na performance is sadly gone when it comes to developing new cars. forced induction is the way to go to be both competitive and follow emission laws.

It's shame really, it's what makes honda's special for me. But also looking forward to what they can do boosted! I believe honda are looking at making mclarens f1 engine in 2014

N/A wasn't particularly what made honda special. More the fact that when they really make the effort to make a performance car they generaly come out with something allot more refined than anything else around.

I recon once the Factory Turbo Type R's era start's with mega reliable, super responsive high hp small CC turbo engine's the rest of the market won't know what hit them. If you look at the fact the honda Touring car engines are the same CC as the competition but are forced to run less boost as the engines are out performing the field so much. And yet they still won the BTCC.

Factory Turbo Vtec era will come and dominate all!!!! Mwwaahahaha!!!

Sorry got a bit carried away there lol

I'm loving the sound of all this. And IMO n/a didn't make Honda special, it was Honda that made n/a special.
