hey guys i'm trying to decide weather to go with the 98+ itr 4.7 fd tranny or the b16b/c5/96,97jdm itr 4.4 tranny
now i know the 4.7 itr tranny has the 4th and 5th gsr gears which i dont really want so would it be easier to swap the gears for the shorter 4th and 5th gears
or
just go with the 4.4 tranny and swap the final drive?

Think the 98 spec 4.7 and use the 4th and 5th from s4c is the better option .

Because the 4th and 5th from the s80 are long and on a b16 is just not good , with the 4th and 5th from s4c it will be much better, and that's just not me saying this ,it's fact .

yea i know that but i'm asking why would you rather do that or get the ctr tranny and swap the final drive?

I think S4C and 96 Spec S80 are same gear ratios

98 Spec 4th and 5th are longer iirc

What gearbox do you have now?

that's what i'm trying to figure out.. if i wana get the 98+ or ctr/itr pre 98

Either way the result will be the same, and it's a similar amount of work to change the gears or final drive (although changing 4th and 5th gears will require accurate shimming)

I would just go with the option that's easier to get hold of or cheaper

Simplest option is to get a 96 spec S80 (J4D) and install a 98 spec 4.7 FD

What engine are you running?

that's what i'm trying to figure out.. i'm going to buy eather the b16b or 98+ itr.. i'm leaning towards the 98+ itr tho

96 had intake ports done by hand 98 is machined

B16 you'd want a 4.9 FD
B18 you'd want 4.7 FD

That's if there for Road use and imo

My opinion from personal experience(ive had some Bseries boxes in my time)

use the b16b s4c with atleast a 4.9final or the 98spec s80 with s4c 4th and 5th again with a 4.9(same thing just a different way around it)
Obviously it depends what you use the car for.

X2 ^

Close gear set is far better than both options

so your recommending the 98+ with s4c 4th and 5th and a 4.9 fd?

It would be cheaper to go s4c with 4.9fd. Equals the same result but is far cheaper than buying a 4.7s80 and swapping all the parts out.
Worth mentioning that s4c and 4.4s80 are the exact same box.

yea well i plan on getting the 98+ motor with tranny unless i tell them i want the s4c tranny
