2k Lacquer in spray cans

It's the isocyanates which are the most dangerous part, they can cause paraylsis of the lungs and you become sensitised to it so a small does next time can cause the same damage as a larger dose.

The cost of a set-up is £300'ish for a suitable compressor, probably more, as the mask requires a constant amount of air the duty cycle has to be very good so even if it is 3hp etc. it has to flow the cfm constantly and many of the cheaper compressors have poor duty cycles. It then has to be filtered and the filtering system is roughly £150, and the mask itself is roughly £150. It then has to be placed away from any fumes.

For spot repairs you are fine priming with 2k using a roller or brush and a charcoal mask, but you have to make sure it doesn't touch bare skin as it will be absorbed.

The breathing apparatus is positive air pressure so it doesn't need to fit snugly as the air is pushing out from under it so nothing can get in. To be honest I think I've just talked myself out of selling it!

good point, didnt think of the positive air pressure. Sounds like id get away with a good mask and a divers tank aslong as my extraction in the booth is good enough, i dont spray cars and reckon i get through a 400ml can in two days so its not a constant large amout of fumes id be dealing with

ive never used a 2k primer so might try that once im setup, its not essential to use a 2k primer if using 2k lacquer is it?

Looks like I've been alittle fortunate with this paint then. I've had it all up my hands and arms before.
Will defo be safe with this stuff next time.

id say you been lucky, ive read it gives you skin problems if exposed for a long time!

i emailed the company who's 2k il be using trying to get a data sheet of whats in the paint, ive been asked to get hold of this by protecdirect.co.uk who can help choose the right filters for a mask once they know whats in the paint...

BUT it seems the paint company arent getting back to me with a data sheet so can anyone see a problem if i give them data from another brand of 2k lacquer ( providing i can find it )?

Calling the professional painters....

what mask filters are you using to protect yourself from 2k??

ive got protect.co.uk helping me choose my gear but they cant tell me what filters i need without knowing what chemicals are in the paint and finding the exact chemicals in the different lacquers is proving to be a nightmare!

i cant imagine every different lacquer needs a different type of filter so does anyone know what i need so i dont end up lying on the spray booth floor lol
