2015 Civic Type R takes on Nurburgring

They don't make em like they used to!

I think people need to be realisitic with what to expect. The engine was always going to be a turbo, regardless of the emissions regulations it just needs to be as the the FN2 showed that the K20 was struggling to carry performance in such a big car. If they tried to stay N/A and increase the displacement it would have almost certainly have meant a longer stroke, as it needs the torque, and we probably would have been seeing a 7Krpm redline anyway.

You can complain about it being mcpherson and torsion beam if you want but what else are they going to do? The cars need to maximise cabin and boot space, as well has being strong enough to get good NCAP ratings, in order to compete in the current market. As much as we like them, if Honda released anything like the EK these days it would be an enormous flop. Think about how much space is inside a Jazz and the fact that the external dimensions are smaller than an EG 3dr.

Get excited about it people. For the last 6 years the most exciting thing honda have had in their european range was a luke warm type R. imo this is literally the best we could hope for.

Is everyone missing the point here?

Yes I'm sure it'll be a great car, yes I'm sure non enthusiast will love it. BUT, why do we love Hondas?

NSX
EK9
DC2
EP3
DC5
FD2
FN2
SIR
SIR2
VTI

Ect ect

ALL high reving N/A (and here's the important bit) Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control...

Is this not why we all fell in love with our Hondas and bought them in the first place?

ALL the other manufactures are doing Turbo cars so what is unique about this? Just another Turbo'd hatchback with a different badge.

Fuming! :wtf2:

This, I get the feeling that the Megane RS will still be a better car, It seems to me that Honda think by giving the car 280bhp everyone will flock to it.

As said before. Eagerly awaits the new turbo engine to ek chassis parts being available.

times have changed, it won't be a flop. Maybe in some of our eyes it will be but I'm sure it will sell, just like the Fn2 did, and I disliked that model and still do lol.

Actually not really the reason I love honda's. Get quite bored of having to rev like **** and make so much noise all the time to get anywhere fast. Honda's main point for me was always build quality and useablility. Im rough on cars so I like one's that take it well.

Think you have missed the point and what might be the biggest selling point of the new Type R, Is it will do everything you need a Hot Hatch to do, It will do it all very well and most of all It should take any abuse you can want to throw at it, Thus being extremely usable as a Hot hatch. As the majority of decent hot hatches about these days are pants when it comes to build quality and reliability. All these VXR's, RS Megans , Focus RS's, as soon as you use them as they are made to be used they all spend more time in the dealers within the first few year while under warranty than on the roads.

New Turbo Civic Type R FTW.

P's love/hate how my mums Jazz is smaller than my EG6 but inside has 5x more usable space and 4 doors. Turbo Jazz Type R FTW!! :win: haha

It was never going to sound great with noise/emissions regs etc. They're making the most of what they can make within the limitations.

agreed

Am I right in thinking that it will come in 5 door/estate form? No 3-door variant now?

Looks great.

5 door yes, estate no.

However Honda are releasing the Civic "Tourer" which is essentially a civic estate.

personally after the EK honda"s looks have slid downhill..with the exception of the fd2r

Would rather a Focus RS, Megane RS, Astra VXR ( and i ****ing hate all of them ) Civic with a turbo and no high revving engine... WHAT CIVIC ?!?!?!?

I kinda like the looks of it though... but like an A-10 and an AH-64 Apache look cool... They are so ****ing ugly that they are actually quite cool..

4 exhaust exits on a 4cylinder isn't cool IMO,
Also on the nurburgring pictures the car had wider front wings with like a brake vent behind them, where did that go?
Other than that its okay. A lot like the competition really.

I actually like the look of it...they're not official pictures though
