Hi all,

I need to get 4 new tyres for my Ek9. Iv got £250 to spend but im stuck between Toyo t1r's in 195/55/15 or Michelin 195/50/15 as the Michelin in 55 are out of my budget.

Iv read mixed reviews on here about the toyos and mostly good about the Michelins. Has anyone gone from a 55 to a 50 and felt any difference or wished they hadnt gone for a 50?

Any input welcome.

Any chance its the Pilot EXALTO PE2? That is what I have on now and on my old car. Before I got the Michelins, I had crappy tyres on 195/55 so I couldn't tell the difference. My speedo is about 3 mph off with 50 profile which is the downside but I saved around £50 per tyre going for 50 profile.

Haven't tested these tyres on track yet with my EK9, but when I had my EJ9 it was great, even in the wet.

If you have you car lowered 50 profile tyres are a must I recently changed my front tyres as they were due and 50 profile give me full lock and bumps without rubbing sometimes on mini-roundabouts 55's caused a bit of rubbing. I havent noticed any decrease in comfort but then on coilovers its quite stiff anyway.

I always went for 50's the price difference just doesnt justify 55's - and to be honest 50 side profiles were fine and didnt notice much of a difference from the 55's.

Thank you all for your replys. Yes its the Pilot's. Wanted an all round good tyre and they seem to be what people rate. The price difference between the both was deff a shock, with the michelin's i can get 4 55's for £400+ or the 50's for £250 fitted.
Will get them ordered this week.

I have 50's on my EK4 cause they were cheaper. Some people say they're better than 55's as they are more responsive.

Downside is that if I do 75miles the odometer will say I've done 80 as they have a smaller wheel circumference than stock measurements.

If I had the money I would get the 55's.

I have the Michelin Pilot Exalto 2's on my EK9. Have had these for about 20 months and they are perfect in both wet and dry with still plenty of tread left. I went from 55's to 50's also due to the silly difference in price. I paid £162 for 4 of these at the time as they had a special offer on - Bought them at Costco believe it or not! So yes I would recommend and they also look nice too :)

Your Speedo isnt 3mph off. Reducing the 55 profile tyres to 50 is same as shortening your gear ratios.

The speed indicating on your speedo is correct.

50 profile tyres would have a tighter wall lining compared to 55 tyres. Turn in will be sharper. Theres ups and downs but only a pro would notice.

PM me, can sort you out with federal RSR tyres in 195/50/15 if interested, road legal semi-slicks at a fraction of the cost of toyo r888's

You sure about this? Or maybe it is my speedo. When I am doing 70pmh on the clocks, the sat nav indicates its around 66-67 mph lower. I also used a tyre speed calculator on here Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 3 of 4

i use the 50's but prefer the prada spec 2. have used on past few cars had gds3 before. both day and track preform well and 160 quid a set of 4. but still yet to try the R888. roll on trax.

go for hankooks £229 delivered for four from cameskills 195/50 is the better and most widely used profile on here i myself run it and find it to be spot on

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I'm in the same dilemma and to save a bit of cash I'm looking at 50 profile.

I'm worried my wheels will look much smaller in the wheel arch. What do you reckon? Any pics at all?

Look perfect with 50's, check my build thread if you want pictures bud.

Cool. Will start a new thread about what tyres you all recommend. Looking online looks like not many sell RE010's anymore.

RE002 are cheap and meant to be great. I will be buying these for my daily wheels :nice:
