Civic Jordan #148
hey guys. Took my 75k miles civic ek4 Jordan b16a2 for dyno runs yesterday and it only ran 147 bhp

It has few bolt on mods and one of previous owner was using it as a track car ....

* AEBS INTAKE MANIFOLD (from the states)
*421 manifold and full exhaust system with decat pipe

I thought it would be at least have a bit of a gain as they come 159 standard ....

Dyno tech guy said it might have had a map on it and previous owner might have removed map and put stock ecu back in or something ?

Should I go back to stock parts and dyno it again?
do I buy a mappable ecu and map it ?
Or do I buy new performance parts ?

Any help or advise will be very much appreciated !

Check engine health first so a compression and or leakdown test.
Also bare in mind the engine is pretty old

Yeah as above do a compression and/or leakdown test, may show up something odd! No other signs like oil usage or smoke etc? I know age affects the power output and usually goes down over time but yeah as you say 147 with the mods is a bit lame. My brothers bone stock gave 160 on a dyno dynamics so every engine is different. A mappable ecu and a remap would be good to get the best out of it for sure, especially if you plan on any further mods.

Where was it dynod too? every dyno is different and some are rather generous, some aren't. Just something else to consider.

Hey. Thanks for the reply.

Dyno I took it to was at ADE TUNING in darwen Lancashire !

My previous Jordan hit 159 on that dyno and that had few mods and a dastek map

Nope. It uses hardly any oil ! I check my oil weekly and it isn't even using anything ? Is that correct ?
No smoke either. Engine sounds and runs very good !

I may add that It had a service with non genuine Honda parts. Would that affect the dyno results ?
How would I go about compression and leak tests ? Are they do it yourself tasks or a job for a mechanic ?

Which dyno would u recommend ? Im from north west

No oil use or smoke, yes that's right mate that's how it should be so that's a good sign. The non honda service parts wouldn't affect the power like that no.

You would need a compression test gauge and a leakdown test gauge to do these tests. They are easy enough to do yourself at home, especially the compression test anyway. But any decent garage should have these kits. The leakdown is a bit more specialist but not difficult to do.

Took it to 5 garages around the area and they all charging roughly under £25 for a compression test but they didn't wanna do it lol

They all said it it was compression issues, i would have difficulty starting the car and it would feel like **** lol - they all said I'd just need a remap

I told them all that it starts fine. But sometimes feels as though it takes a long time to kick into vtec ! Climbing to 5.5k rpm takes ages but once it's in tec it's strong

Should I still go for a compression and leak down test ?

One guy said it possibly may be something to do with fuel injectors ?
I didn't think he knew much ... or could he have the solution ? Lol

Get the timing checked, timing gun and short the service connector. Should be within the 3 marks on the crank pulley, ideally on the central one. You just slacken the dizzy bolts and clock the dizzy round to adjust. Easy job, Google is your friend.

I'd check your timing and fuelling as well. Could be a million different things TBH. Also, it's not 147 whp by any chance is it?

If i pm you could u give explain this for me ?

My friend and I were saying the same thing. But he's only left me with hope that it's running 175 ish at the crank lol
Only way I'll find out is by calling them tomorrow morning ! Lol. Will reply back !

Another vote for timing here- run my DC2 @ 18degs advance (book spec is 14-18). Always run it religiously on VPower so no issues with pinking etc

Definitely feels a bit peppier for it.

147atw would certainly be a ballpark figure. Work on adding 25-30hp to a wheel figure as a decent stab at a flywheel figure (dyno lottery notwithstanding!)

What does your dyno graph look like ? Did you get an afr print out as well ? What fuel do you run it in etc ?
As for a compression test you can pick them up for cheap at any motor factors ands its as simple as changing spark plugs.

Hey thanks for reply bud. Here's a pic of my graph

Loosing power after consecutive runs is a sure sign of heat soak. Unless you induction kit is tucked right behind the head light or in the wheel arch it's costing you power over a closed air box system.

Getting the cam and ingnition timing checked is a good idea, but to be honest that power figure isn't bad for a a2 that's probably been driven hard for the last 20 years. Might be worth changing your fuel pump, spark plugs and plug leads also. If the engine has aircon take off the belt and see does that increase power

Hey thanks for reply. I've not given my car much time recently in terms of sorting power issues if there is any lol

I have the stock induction kit on. But part of it is removed
I only found out recently. The bit that goes into the chassis has been removed.
Should I get a long arm induction kit ?

Cam and ignition timing - which garages can do this ? All round here scratch their head when I ask for more advanced services lol

I think fuel pump needs a change anyways. So will go ahead and have that done

Spark plugs are 2 weeks old and plug leads are comp..... something lol
