Im having no luck trying to find the answer to my questions and as usual searching the internet has just confused things even more so does anyone 100% know the answers to these questions, i need personal experience here and not what someone heard or read...

Can you use a brake booster from a ABS car on a non ABS car? Ive read it can make the brakes "too strong"

What are the part numbers for the 1" boosters on a EK9 and DC2 that are written on top of the booster? Such as NM290V and NM280V. Or is there any other way to identify them?

Can you identify a EK civic 40/40 prop valve by whats written on it? if so what is the number written on it? And is the 40/40 definitley different to a facelift EJ9?

Im upgrading my ej9 brakes which were 262mm front and rear drums to 282mm front and 262mm rear and the car doesnt have ABS so id like to get this right first time

Thanks :nice:

They are the same, you can use either

I’ll try to remember and have a look this evening

Again, I have a 40/40 valve on my car so will have a look for you. Presumably EJ9 has drum brakes on the back so yes, the proportioning valve will be different.

How sure are you on the boosters being the same because I dont think they are, and from what ive read the master cylinders are different too between abs and non abs cars, some even have a 12mm nut for the outlet instead of a 10mm

Ive also read a few people have put a non abs m/c on a abs booster and its locked the brakes up ( i might have got that the wrong way around but anyways they switched them to the matching booster and then everything was ok )

I have ABS booster and MC with a 40/40 non abs prop valve and never had any issues.

good to know, if you can post the numbers on the prop and booster when you've had a look :nice:

I have a ABS brake booster from DC2 Type R with number NM290V stamped and yellow sticker on it. The number stamped on my 40/40 non ABS prop valve is 01806(big number 6 or it's G, not really sure), something like that. Unfortunately I have only one picture of it and it's not very clear. The facelift EJ9 prop valve is different from the 40/40 one.

I also can't confirm what are the difference between the non ABS and ABS boosters, same goes for the brake master cylinders. I'm in process of purchasing an OEM brake master cylinder rebuild kit and there are quite a lot of different part numbers for it. It's pretty confusing.

Non abs prop valve here if you need one.
how much you wanting? and whats the number on it?

It is, and the amount of bad information out there makes it worse

Strange that your number is different from the genuine honda prop that tegiwa sells which is V25CE

If you look around Google you will find the same prop valve with various diffrent production numbers. I can't be sure why is that, but I assume that it have to do with their production date.

If it matters my 40/40 prop valve came in packaging with blue label, which should means that it was originally intended for/sold on the U.S. market. I will have a look tomorrow and I will confirm what is the number stamped on it, because I'm pretty sure that it isn't "01806", but more like "c18cG".

Sorry for the late reply. I can't see part number stamped anywhere on my master cylinder or booster. There is "7 L R" stamped on the side of the master cylinder but what it means I have no idea. I have checked part numbers for master cylinders on jp-carparts and it seems you were right and I was wrong - there are different part numbers for ABS and non-ABS models. Annoyingly there are eight different part numbers for ABS and six for non-ABS, it seems Honda used various suppliers and cylinders throughout production maybe?
