hi guys

Just looking for some input. I’m having my engine taken out shortly as I’m having a complete internal overhaul, while it’s out I want to paint the gearbox and engine. What colour would you recommend and what brand of heat resistance paint?

See pic as to what colour code i have my bay at the min.

Personally id stick with a silver to freshen it up, id imagine any high temp paint would be fine just make sure its prepped well and has enough coats of paint.

Is it worth trying to chuck a bit of laquer on it too? I painted mine and after a wee while it started to look a bit crap, didn't take a clean up well either!

VHT isnt needed on engine covers so doubt its needed for engines. Id just give it a proper clean and leave it, less hassle, cost and dont have to worry about it coming off or looking **** after a while

If you do paint it remember its going to need very good prep and primer as its alloy, id try polishing it before painting

I've always been told not to put paint on the head as they get mega hot! Try clean it up

Also, bear in mind, if the car is sitting for a while in damp conditions the aluminium oxidises rapidly. This can be seen in the pic you posted. Obviously, the paint will begin to flake when this happens.
I still think it's worth doing do. Freshens up the bay.

Prep is the key, I did my block and head in black, I didn't prep it enough and it didn't look good for long, I ended up stripping it all.
