EK9 type-r
Hi guys a bit of a long one, Basically had my ek9 all was perfect took it to Torque GT to do valve clearance and timing belt, and they rang me saying the car won't idle properly and would die if you didn't add throttle, said it was IACV so I replaced this it stopped the ca from dying but still idles poorly been months trying to figure this one out. I will list all the things I've checked/done it's helped a bit now when driving all is fine come to a stop and it drops to 300-400 revs runs **** then hunts, But once driving all is fine. If you cold start in the morning revs fine around 1500 until warm sits at 1k no issues second you use power windows ect it hunts runs poorly.

New IACV
New TPS sensor
New dizzy cap, and arm
New spark plugs
New Pcv valve

all these have helped the poor idle issues slightly i just can't get to the bottom of it.

Did you get this problem sorted?

So the car was running perfectly before going to TGT but wasn't running right since?....

yeah ran and idled perfect since then i havent got it to idle properly since I'm literally lost with trying to figure it out smells like its running rich too if i could show you a video of the idle youd hear what i mean also

Disappointing of TGT if that's the case....I guess you had discussions with them right?? :slap:.....lol

Yeah I did won’t use them again for service items anyways

Have your tried adjusting the excelerator cable is it adjusted or been altered since? I would also reset the ECU as well.

i haven't adjusted it ill give it a go today and I've tried the ECU reset batter off for 30 in then left the car to idle for 20 mins

Did you take the two back up fuses out as well? Could be the cable/linkage that needs adjusting.
One more thing you could try is the idle screw on the throttle body, try setting it when when car is up to temperature then reset ecu again.

Can you shed light on back up fuse? Not sure where or what they are. I’ve been adjusting idle screw to try help, it’s seems when the cars warm it happens less from cold start it revs to 1,5 2k which is Normal then it sits fine at 1k once I’m driving come to traffic lights it hunts but when it’s warm seems to do it way less brake peddle goes abit soft if your at lights with foot on the brake then it starts to hunt not sure if that’s related

Top two fused on the left (engine fuse box) Get the engine upto temperature then rev a few times and see what's happens if the idle drops adjust idle screw.
The excelerator cable is it too slack? It's either the cable setting / adjustment or idle screw.

Do you mean take those two fuses out the run the car ect or are you meaning just check if they are blown sorry I’m confused

Two things that I'd check as well - timing and alternator. Normally when you load up alternator by turning on lights or operating windows revs should go up slightly. I'm not sure if it's the ECU that controls this (must be?) Or what input it is using to make the adjustment but it could well be related to that. Sometimes parts just die, I had a fuel pump die half way through MOT, clearly wasn't the garage's fault.

the timing was redone by a reputable garage just to be safe alternator is a shout ill look into that and see. that's true old cars things die but i just cant figure out what is causing this issues been months of trying things

If you have tried all above and still fails this little nut stops the linkage going further forward. I still think the problem lies within the linkage/ cable? especially with all the new parts you've fitted.only. It only needs to be slightly out.

So maybe I’ll grab a new throttle cable. Is there a way to know how to adjust it to the correct spec? Or how do you know what’s oem specs

Have you tried adjusting anything on the cable or linkage cable yet?
It might need adjusting. When the car is up to temperature, when the idle starts to drop, try adjust idle screw slowly to where it should be.

That picture of the small nut I posted should be touching the linkage on tick over but if the cable is too tight it will tick over high.

Just checked the idle on my 9. when car first starts it sits 1700 then drops to 7 possibly 6-800. You don't know if the garage has adjusted that screw to try and get it to idle properly ?
