Engine Management Light woes

So finally I have got my EK9 back on the road. There have been quite a few teething issues that are mostly sorted now but there's one thing I can't get to the bottom of. The EML comes on at around 4k RPM every time I drive the car. I've tried to check for codes by bridging the connector but there aren't any stored. It clears as soon as you shut off the engine, but comes back when you drive again? I have checked all electrical connections, swapped the O2 sensor for a spare one, still does it. There are no obvious issues with the car, power delivery and fuel consumption are fine as is idle etc... Anyone has any ideas what might be causing this issue?

Does it happen every time you hit 4,000? Or is it when you're cruising along at 4K?

It comes on once you hit approx 4K and stays on. If I just start the engine and rev it in neutral it also comes on. I just don't understand why isn't the ecu storing any faults?

You're using a stock ecu? Does the Mil light flash through its sequence at all?
Have you tried not turning the ignition off and bridging it?

Yes, stock pfl EK9 ecu. Do you mean does it come on with ignition and then goes off when the engine is started? Yes. I have't tried bridging the plug without turning the ignition off, that's a good shout I'll try that!

It's possible when you're turning the ignition off it's wiping the codes. Give it a try without turning the ignition off.
Only other thought is maybe the timing is out on the dizzy? Should be 16 degrees btdc.
Although I think bridging the connector with the engine still running locks the timing to 16 degrees btdc so you can set the timing? Not sure on that though.

I have set the timing to 16 degrees with the plug bridged so that should be OK. Will probably do it again tho just to double check.

One thing that just occurred to me is that it's a facelift engine with a pre-facelift loom and ECU, but as far as I know that shouldn't matter?

if not mistaken the stock ecu for EK9 is PCT

By pfl he means pre facelift.
