R1PPU's EJ9 Build Up

Looking good bud!
You at japfest this year?

Thanks dude!

Nah I don't move down for good until the end of August so going to miss it this year :( Trying to save up some cash for moving away so not eve like I can come down for the weekend which sucks!

Car is looking soooo good! Great build!

What's next?

Thanks man, appreciate it!

Next is brakes and sorting the hunting and EML I've got atm. Been meaning to do the last 2 for ages but uni's taken over (I'm in my final 3 weeks now). In terms of brakes, My front left calliper is sticking slightly and has warped the disk so just going to fit the 282's I've got sitting in the loft. Then it's time to hit knockhill!

Right, I'll give this a quick update.

Seeing as my life is in this build, here's the personal part haha. Finished up with uni after 5 years, graduated from Heriot Watt University in Mechancical Engineering (Masters) with a Distinction. So happy its done and that I achieved the result I was capable of, obviously had to take a selfie when I got my result! :) I'm off to the Midlands after summer to start my graduate job with JLR! So will be attending more events down south.

So with uni done, Steve (@Steve M ) and I went up to Banzai at Crail, cars got some really cool attention and met the guys at Chasing7 who were all ace. Check out this pic of my car I found and the video that Jack Green got of the day, my car makes a few appearances!

After this I started working through the issues with the car that have been annoying me. This included an oil leak, but of course nothings ever simple with my car. Turns out my car uses and NSX VTEC solenoid, so when I went to change the gasket a standard B series one wouldn't fit. B series in the packet (left), NSX is what came off (right). And of course the NSX gasket was double the price from Honda haha. Huge thanks to Matt for helping me with getting the right gasket here (@tenz78 ).

Moving on, I was getting a really bad rotational noise from the front right sound, I thought it was warped discs (again) as we replaced the wheel bearings when we fitted the extended studs a couple of years ago. Perfect time to fit my 282's I got off Nicole (@nicole_ ) last year, so fitted them with MG 282mm Pagid discs and the half worn DS2500's she gave me with the callipers, as well as a 1" MB6 MC I got off Ryan (@Ryan-EK9 ) about 4 years ago haha. Everyone says you have to bend the stock brake lines to fit the MB6 MC but I just unclipped them from the retaining bracket on the firewall and the fit fine. Getting it into place was a complete pain in the ass though haha. Thoughts on the brake upgrade is that they feel amazing, pedal travel is much shorter and I can't overheat them which is great for now! Although white wheels and DS2500's make me want to slit my wrists.

This didnt fix my issue, so I swapped the hub over to a spare that Steve had and this fixed the noise instantly. The old wheel bearing felt disgusting, so I reckon we must have bent the flange fitting the studs which wore the bearing excessively. Dean (@Deans96r ) gave me some spare studs he had and Steve fitted a new bearing, ball joint and studs to the good hub, so thats another thing fixed!

About that time we all (Steve, Dean, Tam and Chris @Bushell ) went for a drive and I have to say I love my car

Since then I've changed the steering rack bushes and compliance bushes in an attempt to fix my knock but it's not worked. Only bushes I haven't replaced in the car are the engine mounts and front camber arms. Other possibility is the steering rack but I'm getting fed up trying to find it now. Serviced the car as its ow 5300 miles since the new engine went in, very little metal on the sump plug which is obviously a good thing. The engine uses no oil which is a bonus!

Done the usual cleaning of the wheels, stuck with what I did last year: wash, de-iron, clay, polish and seal. Seems to work!

Here are the final recent pics, some are crap because they're from my phone.

Got Scottish Car Show tomorrow which should be good! The car's starting to show its age in terms of bodywork, but its now done 121K miles so this is to be expected I suppose. Still annoying but I'll get it sorted in time.

I've also owned the car for 6 years now. Not bad for a first car!:troll:

A lot has been going on man. Finally getting some boxes ticked on your to do list. Congratulations again on graduating uni, very well deserved.

Bodywork is pretty much the last piece of the puzzle

Well done with everything man fair play. An ya white wheels are a pain but there class hahaha

Thanks dude! Will get that sorted after I sort out this bloody knocking noise haha

Thanks mate! Yeah the look so good but they get dirty within about 2 feet haha

Slight update!

So before leaving Edinburgh, @Ally138 and I finally did a photoshoot, only taken us about 2 years to do it haha.

Moved down to Leamington as I have a graduate job down here. Went exploring on the local roads...

And the most important thing, visited @robthedoc and @Saint Matt at TI Motorsports to run the car on their first dyno day. Great day and got to see how healthy the B16 really was seeing as we never really knew the history of it. Put out 164BHP on a conservative dyno which i'm over the moon with! More power than the B16 left the factory with over 20 years ago on an untouched P30, confirming our suspicions that the engines been rebuilt/played with at some point (the block had been painted black but the head hadn't when we first got the engine). Trying to resist what Robs said about getting an S300 or another ECU and mapping it... but it'll be interesting to see what it would make on a proper map haha.

Fitted a new dizzy and thats not fixed my EML so it must be a wiring issue...the joys. Been crazy busy with my brother getting married so gonna start tracing the wiring back for the dizzy over the next few weeks!

You must be killed from cleanin the yoke are ya? hahaha

Haha I was cleaning it more than I was driving it when I got down here! Got back from India on Saturday and was cleaning it on Sunday morning :wtf2:

Dailying it this week again and I'm actually enjoying it, its weird haha.

Long time no update!

Not a huge amount has happened tbh. Started a new role at work which has taken up loads of extra time (regularly working 10-15 hours overtime a week), enjoying it though! Testing prototype vehicles isn't getting old

So after the dyno day, Christmas Mimms was up, was a great day made better by being 7 minutes away from where I live now haha. Here's some pictures that I got, and the one of me standing chatting to Lee was taken by my friend whilst she was messing with my camera.

Around this time my car was handling like a bag of shite, so had a look around and realised that the rear drivers side damper had blown. The steering rack also had a stupid amount of play in it. And the tyres were getting a bit slick. The coilovers are only 4 years old (35,000 miles), so was a bit pissed off at that. And to add insult to injury, the replacement damper was £117 posted...

Anyway cracked on with replacing the damper.

And fully rebuilt and greased. Covered the exposed threads with electrical tape after this pic.

After this, I made the trip to see @robthedoc at TIMotorsports again. The steering rack needed replaced, and having done the job before on the ground I knew how much of a pain in the arse it was. The car would also need aligned after this which I'd only get done at TI so made sense to get everything done up there.

We also replaced my pancaked cheap manifold for an Apexi one from Ally (wont let me tag him for some reason). You can also see the Carbon Plug cover that @Steve M got my for my birthday :))

Replaced the tyres for some Federal RSR's from @nicole_ and aligned the car. The tyres are incredible, so much better than the Parada's. Wish i'd switched years ago. Rob also advised that my nearside driveshaft could do with being replaced, which I ordered when I got home then fitted a few nights later on the drive. My head torch is one of the best investments I'e ever made!

Also somewhere in that lot I repainted the valve cover, did the valve clearances, replaced the starter motor, changed the lambda and washed the car a lot haha.

Been focusing a lot on my photography recently, so if anyone wants any shoots done then give me a shout, I'm based in the midlands. https://www.facebook.com/rippuduggalphotography/

Will leave you guys with this, took it at Driftcup last weekend.
