pdapaul's YellowSpeed Time Attack EKK24 on ITBS

I'm a big fan of the racing format. Every series should throw in the occasional smart car to mix things up a little!

Ha ha..
I've had social services on this morning with allegations of Smart car abuse :)

You definitely needs your wits about you, as the closing speeds are so high. At one point I thought they were ganging up on me ha ha

This is the S2000 from race 2.
Mark is a really good driver and his s2000 is a quick 2.2, so I'm over the moon to be anywhere near him ever mind winning!!

With just days to go the final prep is almost complete.
Going into the outlet first TA round of the year we have a few noticeable upgrades that should help to get us closer to the leaders.

Most exciting is a new engine and induction. The vehicle now has :

Forged K24 "Frank" (k24 bottom end with a k20 head"
Uprated Skunk2 Valvetrain
Tdi North Cams
Tdi North/Titan Throttle bodies

Awesome!!

I run the Titan ITB's on my cammed k20 and its lively!

Do you know what sort of power the cars making yet?

It ended up about 285, but the midrange is unbelievable. I'm looking at a 50bhp and 50ftlb+ torque increase from my cammed k20 in some places.

I do know it's got more torque at 3k than my k20 did at peak, and Vtec crossover is 3750 :)

Impressive!! I'm sure it pulls like a train... What sort of torque figures is it making?

I found a big jump in torque even on the k20 with the Titan ITB's, making 180ft.lbs from about 4K

Similar to yours there torque really starts to rise at about 4K rising to peak which is about 220 @5.5

Loads of torque then!! My car peaks at about 185 ft.lbs it holds good torque from about 4K until it starts to taper off further up the revs and peak hp is about 30bhp down on what you have

It's a good comparison with your k24 setup vs similar mods on my k20 setup so that I know what I can expect if I ever went down the 2.4 bottom end route

Looking forward to a few videos of this beast!

Impressive build Paul. But am I missing something or is your expansion tank also acting as a breather for the rocker outlet..?

She sounds soooo good Paul!
Well done on the weekend btw!

I wouldn't have said it was an expansion tank, more a catch for any coolant that is expelled from the cap. It technically doesn't need it at all, but MSA state you have to be able to catch any fluids.

Paul, that is 100% acting as an expansion tank and could be causing some serious damage. When the engine is cold it draws any fluid from the "catch" back into the rad, that includes all of the gunk thats been dumped into there from the engine. Then when its hot the cap spring compresses and lets the fluid back into the catch, now considering you are racing the car this will more than likely be getting really hot causing more overflow, and considering you have no one way valve in the line from the head to the catch i would hate to see water rise up that line and into your head. I would be using two seperate tanks personally.
Not teaching you how to suck eggs buddy but for me it wouldnt be worth the risk.

Ben
