Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice's / expertise on GPS Tracking devices to place on my EK9....

This weekend I was surprised with a fool that placed a picture of my car along with the exact address where it's staying and just to prevent that I get f***ed over, I prefer to play the safe side and place something on my car that allows me to keep an eye on it.

So the car is parked on an underground garage and usually I have it with the battery disconnected, and what I'm looking for is a GPS tracking system that can be "offline" most of the time but becomes active (silently) when the car is turned on. Something that can respond to SMS queries and / or send SMS when it gets active or on the move would be nice.

Anyone with expertise on this area?

Thanks!

That's a strange thing to do.
You know him?

Nope. I didn't know the idiot just until now... Though he still doesn't know me.... But he's about to ^_^

I have a load of expertise, and I can't think of any readily available unit that will give you the features you're looking for. There are products that fulfil a few of your needs, but not one I can think of that does all. I'll have a think and see what I can come up with.

Does the battery have to stay disconnected? The problem is that most modern devices that you can self locate with, only become active if the vehicle is moved without the ignition being switched on. So in your case if they plug in the battery, hot wire it and drive off you wouldn't know. But, if they towed it away it wouldn't alarm either as the unit would be disconnected from the battery. Youll struggle to have a device that you can self locate that doesn't require power. We do deal with a company that does locators for skips, so I can give them a call. They are self powered, but I don't know if you can self locate.

Oh errrr... They won't be able to tow it! They'll most certainly plug the battery and drive off. And what I want / need is a GPS tracker that becomes "self-aware" if the battery (of the car) gets connected and warn me ASAP. That's already enough for me to be relaxed :)
So basically:
- Normal GPS tracker (you know... SMS, location functionality, delimited area and such...)
- "Powers-on" alone when battery of the car is plugged-in
- Sends SMS alerting for that and allows me to require tracking p.ex.

That's enough for me.

If you sell this kind of devices, I'll sure would like to do business with you :)

Cheers

I just installed a GPS Tracker TK103 in my car. So many people use this brand of tracker. They have like 3 other devices too but I chose the TK103-A because you can shut off the car while the car is on with your cell phone! The unit literally has like 30 different functions you can do with your cell phone, it's so crazy I can't believe it. It's like a movie. If you don't drive you car weekly, then it will drain your battery to the point where you'll need a jump start. If the thieft disconnects the battery, then you can still track it because it has a backup battery built in the unit that you can choose to have it on or off. The unit is $45 when I bought it. There's the TK110 model too which is as low as $20 but it doesn't have nearly as many functions as the TK103 so it depends on which one suits you better. All of the trackers in this built by "GPS TRACKER" brand works like a charm.

Cool! Many thanks for the info Michael.

Well... Turn it off at distance doesn't really "help" because it will only make them suspect of the tracker and might drive into a park and search for the device and then I won't have any chance.

I was actually looking at a TK102 (if I'm not wrong), so I might be on the right track...

Well... I'll buy one and test. :)

Thanks for the feedback on that one.

Cheers
