Maybe just me but it seems like every man and his dog is doing K20 swaps these days.

I know they are better allround in prity much every way when it comes to N/A builds and then even better if you decide to boost/ charge it. But where have all the B series fans gone??? It seems like everyone is giving up on them.

Don't get me wrong I have piles of B series spares full b16a, b18c4, B18cR, spare C4 head, A2 head, S4C lsd box, Y21 Spoon LSD box, S9B Lsd box and a B series JRSC to go on one of my B18's plus many other usefull spares that would all be obselete once gone to K20.

But even I cant get over how much a K series makes more sense than any build possible with a B series in the long run.

What I want to see is more negatives about K series so that I can manage to fight off the temptation to sell up and go Special K. :p

Why can it just be simple like most other car manufacture's 1 engine, boost or N/A the end. Instead of honda having so many decent engine combinations and so many ways of tuning them. With like thousands of different brands and parts to choose from.

I really need to have a go in a K20 EG or EK to make my mind up.

I dont actualy know the direct point of this thread just thought I would share my thoughts and see what others thought on the subject :nice:

Has anybody ever regreted going to K20 and wished they had stayed true to the B series?

I think it's the broad torque curve which is so appealing and even better still, stock for stock these engine's are doing better mpg's than the B series engine's from what I have seen. Once you drive a K swap older gen honda you'll understand why they have become so popular.

Sorry I don't have any negative points to add:p

MPG is yet just another reason why the K's are much better that along with a 6 speed box.

Its actualy really depressing me that all my efforts sticking with B series will just end with me going to K in the long run anyway. I cant help chase eficiency and K20's just tick all the box's.

B series is better to work on yourself imo, no bullshit stretched cam chains for a start, god awful main bearing oil starvation issues, a **** rocker cover lol, heavy 6 speed box.
B series is better weight distribution and i prefere the 5 speed ratios to the 6 tbh, less stiring of the box!
I just love the b series hands down, and will never swap. If i ever go na, ill sell the car and but something that has major n/a power to start with lol

P.S mines turbo'd :)

I love how my 1600 is as quick/quicker than most N/A 2.0 cars.

Its the sheer rawness of a B I like, I'm starting to drive mine harder on track higher revs etc. Would love to see the actual difference between a k and b engine in an EK

Keep saying I'm in the super 1600 class. No other 1600 would be a quick

Im a huge fan of the bseries engines but at the same time i can deffinatley see the reasons behind going kseries

My only down side to the k swap is that even though its become so popular its still so expensive to do!

Obviously theres lots of good points at the end of it but just cant justify the how ever many thousands of pounds it would cost to complete all in one go

Personally i would rather just stage by stage build the engine i already have but thats just me

I also love how simple bseries are to work on and how much cheaper parts are :)

I suppose a good point to make would be that our cars were made with bseries and less to 'go wrong' than with a kseries which isnt meant to be there

Its hard to give bad points as Honda obviously know what they are doing and are constantly designing and building newer and better engines but thats enevitable!

I guess the only reason why I am planning a B Series swap is because of the price, that and I guess I am used the a B16

The cost puts me off completely and the amount of parts needed.

Then again a fully built B-series wouldnt cost that much less.....tempting. :(

The 6 speed gearbox is what tempts me, but my im tempted to build my b16a n supercharge it as its the standard engine

If you fancy a trip to cumbria you can have a go in mine if you like? 250bhp and 170ft/lb of torque when the engine was mapped in my ep3

The only weakness about k-series is the transmission ( when drag racing "second gear" ) i dont know about road racing other than that..the extra money spend is well worth it

i dunno i think the bseries is just tip top. the price is terrible on a kswap when now you can pick up a b16b for around 1k.

so that's what i'l probs do get a b16b on the side and build it. ok it will cost allot and il probs only get 230 to 240 bhp but like so what it's a 1.6 i mean come on no other 1.6 can get that kind of power !!!

Tracked mine until I reached the point where I needed more power, had to be n/a and I knew the B18 would not be enough. An engine is only as good as the user, people dont put oil in them, cant shift properly, dont service them, its not going to last B or K, plenty of casualtys on both sides.
Yes the conversion costs but a B build will cost you the same for less power. Torque is key as above, the 6 speed is sloppy compared to a 5 speed but its better, especially with a fd or close ratio. The K Tuned shifter arm parts are very good, giving it a mechanical feel, not that costly either. Best way to see for yourself is to drive one or get a few pax laps on track, plenty bleat on about B being better for this or that without driving both, not just on the road either.

drive a K20 ek9 and you will soon see what the hype is about

my k20 ek9 with bolt on's made 25whp more in the midrange than a fully forged high comp no expense spared B18 build.........

if people are worried about the cost, then just buy my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I could afford to do a K20 conversion properly I would do it! Although when my dad had his JDM DC2 I did love the B18, the shear rawness was fun! My mum currently has an EP3 so I have tried both, there is no doubt the K20's torque throughout the entire range is appealing, Still think a B18-R 9' is a nice compromise considering the price of a decent K swap!

i had a very high spec b series with every bit of work possible , also was fitted with a 5.1 final drive ! ...... the stock k20 with i/h/e would take it hands down now with the running a rotrex supercharger i can safely say its a sleeper

stock k20 fitted into a ek9 was the best thing i ever done faster than b series drives far smoother better mpg and with a quick tune up 240+ is easily done

like so what it's a 1.6 i mean come on no other 1.6 can get that kind of power !!!

But who cares about that? Who actually cares what engine size a car is? :s

Thats the kind of thing you ask someone when you are 15 years old.
