OIL - sorry to ask again

0-40 is fine to use, it is better over an even wider temp range i think,, i`m sure oilman will be here soon to explain,

Yes, the low 0 starting weight will help the car start better on days so cold you wouldn't feel like being outside.
If you are using true synthetic, the starting weight doesn't matter that much, especially this time of year. You could use 20w-50 and the car would start fine. Ideally, you want your multi-viscosity oil to have the lowest distance between the first number and the second one while still being able to start the car and protect at temperatures. This is because for a wider range viscosity oil there are more polymer additives to make up that range, meaning less oil in the mix doing it's job.

Nice one Dino!! I want to add for the interest of everyone that if you have your EK9 or DC2 with the stock ECU, don't forget that it was tuned from the factory to perform with Japanese 100RON petrol and Japanese weather conditions in mind. In Japan it can be really freezing dry in the winter and hot and humid tropical style in the summer. This isn't really a problem with the EK9 as they have more intelligent ECUs than the EG6.

My point about this is that if you are using lower than 100RON petrol then the ECU will run a little over rich to compensate. This affects the oil without a doubt. All B, F, H, K, C series DOHC VTEC engines regardless of it being Type R or not consume oil when in high cam mode. This is Honda's design to protect the cylinder head with its high temperatures.

In Japan because of heavy city start stop driving I change the oil every 3500km to 4000km. I use Castrol Edge 5W40 for normal use and mountain roads and Motul 300V when I go to the circuit. If you do a lot of motorway driving, then 4000km is a bit tight.

I say that in England changing every 3000miles together with the filter and transmission oil isn't too much.

Hi Captain. I am EK9 owner in Portugal. Using now Castrol Edge 5w40 on the b16b using the PCT OBD2B standard ECU, 98Ron petrol. Oil temperatures from oil pan reach very fast and constant 120-140 celsius when driving hard and are constant 117-120 on motorway 4000rpm cruising (4,78 final drive). Should i get an oil cooler?
