is it worth it k swap?

lolwut, you're mum drives an EP3? :D

Yeh she does indeed, Dad bought her it for her birthday there lol, silver facelift. Dad had a JDM DC2 for a couple of years before that though. Loved it!

b20's are good only if they are built right, i have heard loads of b20's going bang but still hasnt put me off, i have one thats doin 13.5 in 1st round and 13.1 in second round on quarter mile, it would easily do low 12's if the exhaust was right, so power wise they are really good

i liked my B20 was awesome, stock motor
Im 100% sure my new engine will please me more, and bolt ons making 240 170 wins hands down for me

Im not actualy biast in either K20 or B20. You are right you will get quite mixed and biast reviews on a forum...^^

I was just noting their differences.

But I think your quite a bit off the mark with those statements though. Built N/A B series "might" get 200hp/130lbft. ??? Those are standard B18CR figures are they not???

I am just going off what I have seen in the past with the Type R B-series motor. They are great motors, like all other Honda motors. My point, is that the K-series motor is more acceptable with bolt on's than the B motors. No matter what direction you look at it, its a public forum where everyone is going to say different things. Its like Spoon vs Mugen. If you want cheaper and not as reliable then go with the B20-vtec. (I have personally owned 2 of them, and simple b20 motors as well along with b16a/r and b18c1/5/r). If you want the same power and more with spending a little bit more then K is the way to go IMO. Like I said, everyone is going to feel different on these 2 options. I am just speaking from my past dealings with both series of motors.

In my opinion a well built b18 or b20 is perfect, can produce 240 bhp with ease and cost half the money

^^ produce 240 with ease???

Well yes, the right high compression b20 build or b18 with some decents cams, pistons, hc valves etc!
240 isn't that high of a target for a well built b series engine especially b18 or b20s:nice:

Was about to say.

A 240hp B20 will cost you at the least around minimum £3000-£4000. ( not that much cheaper than Kswap) ( built and fitted yourself)

Yes a B20 can produce 240hp with ease as long as you spend a good bit on decent new parts i.e new oil pump, water pump, belts, seals and an oil cooler ect to keep it reliable. But that would still be a full engine build with pistons, rods and fairly big cams like BC spec IV's or Toda C's.

Where as the K20 swap will prity much see you at that without even opening the motor.

exactly
a fully built motor is not exactly easy

Ok maybe not so easy but cheaper and keeps it b series as an ek9 should be

Imho it should be as fast and reliable as possible given a certain budget and I think K20 is the way forward then. And it's not thát much cheaper. If you get a K20 swap you can sell your B18 for 1500 or more. Put that on top of the 4k for a B20 and you're already on 5500 to spend on a K-swap.

A fully built motor, done right is going to cost as much if not more than your basic k swap

I just cannot agree with that, both if done in a budget would work out b18 4500 k20 6500, IMO of course

Everyone has a budget, to have a bottomless pit of money would be excellent, buying parts brand new would be ideal, but second hand on a budget has to be done:nice:

Maybe the people who have built their B18's would comment here? New oem parts, pistons, cams, ecu, tune, labour, total cost & what power they are running now..

Anybody starting a proper build will know that costs can soon escalate. I had my K20 engine & box pulled apart, fully checked over, new oem parts everywhere I could for reliability & total piece of mind, costs of the refreshment parts, upgrades, additions, labour, ecu & tune, maybe a change of mind here and there, a call from the tuner..maybe we should look at...

X2 would help greatly for this thread!:nice:

Why the H22 swaps aint popular ill never know, I picked up a JDM prelude for £500 off ebay pulled the motor and box out, broke and sold the rest of the car for £350, then got some bolt in Avid mounts and Driveshaft shop axels (£500) a New clutch and serviced the engine timing belts etc.. whacked it all in at weekends etc.. and the whole swap must stand me at just over a £1000 done, A reliable 200bhp and loads of torque and good set of coilovers and its a weapon on the track for very little money
