your jordans amazin mate, wish my engine bay looked so clean! good job on the manifold aswell i did half off mine and then gave up and heat wrapped instead lol.

I guess I could vent to anyplace like to an open port on my breather kit?
[my breather setup is not returning to block.]
Venting to atmosphere just sounds so negative...lol, thoughts?

yeah you could vent it to what ever you want dude, at the end of the day even if you vent it to your breather setup, it will be vented to atmosphere through your breather filter as you wont be recirculating the spent gas in any way!

looks like a good breather setup Tama :nice:
 
just had a long read through your class build. i'm with you on the n1 pulley, fitted mine recently after a lot of reading on the pros and cons. couldn't find one definate answer that the n1 pulley caused the damage to some oil pumps etc.
people were blaming the n1 pulley because it made sense to them. as you mentioned its balanced from factory not some cheaply made copy
 
N1 pulley, its weird what rumors float around regarding things like this...fact is I know more that have it and had no issues with it. Matter of fact I know more oil pump failures on non-N1 pulleys vs. N1...think about that one! lol

Just did not want to gas myself to death in the cabin, did you ever have fume issues with the evap removed and venting to atmosphere from that filter, entering the cabin at all? Or non-issue?

no never had any problems as the vent pipe runs down the bulkhead towards the underneath of the car :)

you will be fine dude, i'll see if have have any old pics kicking around :)

100% people like to blame something when it all goes wrong, i know a guy running a N1 on his turbo civic for around 30k with no issues whatsoever.

On the standard pulley you have more weight overhanging the end of the crankshaft resulting in higher stress levels on the crankshaft, with all the research i've done i believe this is why the standard pulley runs the harmonic damper and the N1 doesn't.

The standard pulley has to run 2 other belts from factory, if one of the pulleys on either the P/S or A/C was to buckle or a bearing die, this would create centrifugal instability and this is where the harmonic damper would come into effect. :nice:

theres a lot of people who like to have there 2 pence worth who have no real first hand experience with the situation, thats what i've discovered. it's like they have seen a thread on civiclife.net about a guy who's oil pump failed after fitting an N1 pulley, so this automatically means there bad, then everyone jumps on the bad wagon, not considering all the other factors of why the failure could have happened :nono: oh well :rolleyes:
 
My point exactly about the bearings. I might be well off here but I thought the damper would be mainly canceling out vibrations from three different sources.
Saw the thread on civiclife as well, all it takes is one person with a lot of posts to write something on there and it's gospel.
Noticed more of a difference with the n1 pulley than my lightened flywheel.

Hopefully you will be able to make sense as to why most vehicle manufacturers put a harmonic pulley on there cars.

i know exactly what they are dude, i've been researching for the last 2 weeks, the above statements are questions of why?? not what!!! i'm just putting other variables and theories across. :nice:
 
yes i read the link, don't forget HONDA created and developed this crankpulley! i'm not saying that a H/B isn't necessary as that would be a lie, i'm stating the the effect that they cause in my experience is very minimal! i've had N1 pulleys on the last 3 of my B series totaling over 70,000 combined milage with no failure!

main bearings and oil pumps can fail at any point regardless of what crankpulley is fitted!

rich777 posted a much better thread on H/B that goes into real depth, do a search and have a look at that ;)

there is a pipe from the evap named TANK and a hose hooked up to that, should I plug that up or vent that as well as the tube after that "filter" for the evap system?

not a problem dude, vent that one as its a pressure relief for the fuel tank :)

Im going to "T" them together leading up to the breather box. Only have one inlet left otherwise I would not "T" it up. Do you see any issues with Ting them up?

Is it "T" time anyone?
 
Not going to start an arguement about the N1 crank pulley, i mean i run one myself.....!!!

But yes it was developed by honda, but for the B16B engine. Difference being that the B16B is a very tough engine with a great rod length to stroke ratio hence it's reliable high revving ability. this impacts less forces on the cylinder walls and in turn reduces engine vibrations at high revs especially

4 pot engine's are not the most balanced engines, take a straight 6 for example, straight 6's have both primary and secondary mechanical engine balance and thus have much less engine vibration than engines which have fewer cylinders

I looked into it myself and it seems that the major damage is from folk using cheap alloy pulleys which wear about the woodruff key and vibrate themselves to death. However i know how much Endyn and blueprint racing are adamant on using a good quality harmonic dampener on all their engine builds

Food for thought really, as i say i use a N1 pulley on my 1600, but for peace of mind will be using an aftermarket dampener on my new 1800 build
