Differences Between 96 Spec and 98 Spec Integra Type R

Are you sure?

All the JDM Integra Type Rs came with a OBD2A ecu, you can search in ebay for a apexi power fc and in the description of the item you'll find this:

NEW APEXi POWER FC + COMMANDER for Honda DC2 Integra type R B18C Engine 1995 SEP - 2001 JUN

interested in knowing if this is true.:please: looking at getting one, but i figured that i was stuck w/96. i didn't want to do the whole conversion process.

im sure the 98spec has different hubs? i believe they are bigger? i think they are 36mm instead of 32mm like in the CTR and 96spec?

Yea apparently the JDM 98spec has a unique larger front hub and bearing assy. Uses a different front CV joint to all the rest.

My mate found this out the hard way when he when to get a new CV joint

so anybody has a pic of the 98 spec rear upper arm (tubular) with stiffer bushings? thanks

Found a pic on my files.
The one on the left side is for the 96 spec and the right is for the 98 spec.

thanks, much appreciated

anyone had actual experience on the 2?

is the supposedly stiffness of 98spec rear upper arm noticeable from that of the 96spec?

4-2-1 on the 96 is the same as the ek9 manifolds of which are 2.5''.
The 4-1 from the jdm 98 spec is regarded as one of the best oem manifolds made.

The 4-2 cast manifold JDM is the same as the 4-2 JDM GSR. This manifold is much bigger (15% area) than the USDM 4-2 cast manifold which is the same as the Civic Type R 4-2. By same I mean size, pipe seperation, and inside diameter. I have one of each:))

I makes the back end stiffer IMO, I've bought the 98 spec ones new for my eg and ej it's a great upgrade if you come across them on ctr hubs, I think the diamiter of the core is thicker making it stiffer more so than harder bushing,

The 98 spec use ctr hubs and calipers sliders and pads, Cables I'm pretty sure are different,

As for the cams the 98 spec use ctr cam, I've had this tested on a cam profile machine, cool bit of kit when you have 10 sets of unlabeled cams

I have 2 jdm dc2's in the yard 96 and 97 both use obd2a looms

And the back bumper is different on the 98 spec

I researched these before found that translated version of the spoon presidents differences, credit to the lads who got the part numbers,
Trough different people I've been told in Japan that there was a race version of the dc2 made available to garages entered in a comp, they had no clock, no radio, (an "integra" plaque in place) no aerial, black recaro seats, no speakers, manual windows personally I've never seen one or any dc chassis of any type with manual windows, one of my dc2's has no clock but a integera plaque, and I've seen a few with black recaros( nothin rare)

thanks guys

so i assume they all have 2,5 collectors and same sizes.

cheers!

I think 96 has 2.25 collector I had to get a o-ring gasket last yr for one as the few I had wouldn't fit and one was too loose cost me €30 off mr honda for a new one

Seen your sig bad luck on the ej Getting stolen

I have both the 96 down pipe ITR, CTR down pipe, 98 4 to 1 header collector, they all take the same rear cone exhaust gasket known as "2.5" inch.

I've seen JDM ITR with no ABS, I've heard P/S was also optional.

So which is better tranny? 98 96 or ek9? Which has the best heads?

Have a search mate has been covered a thousand times.

All the type R heads are the same pr3 ported with the same uprated valve train the difference in the cams is unnoticeable (extra 3deg on later cars intake vtec cam) and as for the gearboxes it's all down to personal preferences. I'd take the 96/ ek9 ratios any day over the 98 spec
