What causes the paint on the rocker cover to flake off? some people say its due to milage or if its been driven hard but my ek4 with 40 thousand mile was flaked off but my 110 thosand mile ek4 which had a hard life looked perfect? my ek9 rocker cover is mint but that hardly gets used.

Bit of a random post but im bored on a night shift at work

cheers

It's paint.

And not special paint either. Yea its powder coated, but it's still paint.

It can be a number of reasons.

Not cleaning it and protecting it properly.

Also, I guess heat would effect it, so all the long journeys where the engine is hot for a long time, may make it flake quicker, as apposed to short trips where the engine doesn't stay hot for longer periods of time.

I'm just guessing though. lol

I have 108k miles and only have very minor flaking at present. Soon to be all removed and sprayed up again though.

i seen a ek9 with 30 thousand miles for sale and it was badly flaked off. lookes crap when its flaked off.
