Hi guys I picked up a set of new skunk2 pro series cam gears and Im having issues getting the timing correct. If I set it up how I would normally do I end up with the slack on the non tension side of the belt and ultimately half a tooth out on the crank. The marks on the s2 gears seem to be one tooth out from the oe gears? Any ideas?

oe ek9 cams sorry should of said. Its b16b head on 18c4 bottom end, gates racing belt and koyo tensioner

My 30quid ebay cam gears were different to oe by 1 degree on one and three on the other.

Skunk2 will likely also be cheap chinese stuff, so quite possible they are out too!

It shouldnt be important...as what point is there in adjustable cam gears other than to degree them in?

i know what your saying but surly to make adjustments to the cam timing the starting point should be from the manufacturers spec, the adjustment on the gears is set to zero so in my mind I should be able to time the engine using the timing marks. Just wandered if anyone had seen this before

If you notice there is two holes on each of the cam cap plates, one of the two holes should line up with a locating hole in the camshafts when the engine is at TDC. A 5mm drill bit will fit through the hole on cam cap plate and down into locating hole on camshaft. If there has been a decent amount skimmed off the head or block surface you can expect a bit more slack on the timing belt. You can manually adjust the tensioner a little tighter to reduce the slack in belt. For every 10 thou removed from head the cam timing is retarded roughly 1 degree.

That's great thanks. So lock cams at tdc and use adjustment on the gears if required to time correctly?
